Pops works as a drug and alcohol rehab counselor in a state prison. Convicts of various stripes tend to be bullshit artists of the first order, not 'fessing up to their responsibility for their crimes. The really dangerous ones also tend to be very narcisstic, and regard everyone else as simply the means by which their own whims can be fulfilled. The really sociopathic ones that Dad describes are scary for what they have done and their silver tongued ability to BS penpal girlfriends and other folks on the outside.

Now, let's say that you are a narcisstic jerk in the clink for beating your wife and fondling your stepdaughter. In steps in a preacher telling you that you are to be the head of your household, you wife is supposed to submit to you, etc, etc, etc. That isn't religoius guidance, that is rationalization for dysfunctional behavior.

This prison has an imam, (educated in Egypt, at the equivalent of Harvard for Muslim religious scholarship) who gets really frustrated with the inmates that do with Islam what I have described convicts doing with the Promise Keeper ministry.
