Hey, decided to drop by a la Rev. Mike Sutcliffe -- golly is he a dick! I've been working very hard on my book and so I had to give up my online time. Miss the DB, though.

In terms of NAFTA/GATT and American jobs, it is this simple: The US Government and Corporate America didn't fuck Americans as much as they fucked themselves by their own stupidity and greed. Case in point: Televisions by and large used to be "Made in America" and they cost more than foreign sets. When Americans began buying the cheaper foreign sets to save money, they killed off jobs of their fellow Americans. There were efforts to "Buy American" raised by unions and supported by bumper stickers, but people by and large ignored the effort.

What really killed American jobs was the fact that our formerly quality automobiles became pieces of shit in the 70's and 80's. Built by lazy unions slobs who thought God owed them an easy life lavish with guaranteed jobs and benefits, and managaed by greedy execs who wanted fatter bonuses so they cut quality, the American automobile became, for example, the infamous piece of shit called the Chevy Chevette, or the laughable, shaky pile of bolts that was the Chrysler K car.

Enter the high quality Honda Accord. It was like the U Boat entering Allied waters in 1940. Highly engineering and bank vault solid at $15,000 it was priced in the same range as American cars but was orders of magnitude better. The Accord shattered the perception that American cars were better. Then Mercedes and BMW came up with lower priced models to compete with what had been the formidable Cadillac, now reduced to a shadow of its former self with a plastic dash, a bad engine, a bad fuel injection system, and its fabled body roll and boaty suspension. If you were spending $35,000 for a luxo car in 1983, you would've bought a BMW 525 anyday over a Cadillac Towne Car with its failed, first-generation electronic tranmssion.

The second U Boat to enter was Wal Mart. Sam Walton waved the flag while selling cheap foreign shit that he would take back no questions asked. He did this by simply charging his vendors back. They agreed to sell to him on that basis. Rural America abandoned Mom-and-Pop stores in favor of Sam's cheaper prices and red-white-and-blue bunting. This growth allowed Sam to expand and rape and pillage Mom-and-Pop retailers in increasingly larger cities. Pet supplies, electronics, clothes, you name it and Wal Mart sold it cheaper -- along with the lie that this was somehow American because they hired local morons for minimum wage and donated to Girl Scouts and such.

Americans also fucked themselves by allowing unrestricted illegal immigration so that small business owners could make more money off "wetback" labor. Contractors, landscapers, car washes, hotels, etc. could get rid of the cost of benefits, payroll taxes, and everything else, by hiring illegals. If the illegals got sick or pregnant they went to County General on the taxpayers dime while Mr. Landscaper drove his new Dodge Ram around town and lived in upscale Irvine. Mr. Shithead Landscaper lied to himself about being American by buying a Dodge. His wealth, his home, and the rest of his assets depended on a criminal class he could exploit at $3.00 and hour.

I never accept the argument that is was Gov't and Corporate America that did it. It was equally the fault of every American who bought cheap crap at Wal Mart rather than more expensive items from local merchants. It was Ford and GM who squandered the 70's and 80's by building junk while the Japanese built equally-priced quality. It was small business owners who hired (and still do) illegals so that they can get rich and fuck everyone else. "Hey! Everyone else does so I have to in order to compete," is their lie.

American greed and stupdity at all levels have contributed. We were already fucked long before GATT. Everything I have described happened long before GATT.

Everytine you buy something made outside of American to save money you add to the problem. This is why American capital went global. This is why Ford and Volkswagen attacked Mexico and Central America -- all you see down there are Ford Fiesta's and VW's. This is why America is now known as the producer of very high quality knowledge and information products, hardware, pharmaceuticals, and high end items. We can make some things better than other countries and it is all based on knowledge. The deepening have-have not divide is based on education. Essentially, if you're an uneducated American, you are fucked. Welcome to your new home in the permanent underclass.

The Democrats, btw, are keying in on the issue of saving jobs: http://start.earthlink.net/newsarticle?cat=6&aid=718082606_5302_lead_story

Libermand and Gephardt are now waving this flag as one big issue for 2004. What inanity! How can we save jobs when American consumers -- the linchpin -- won't buy American?
How can we save jobs when small business owners are addicted to illegal labor? There has to be a brutal realization that we live or die by our choices to buy and hire American -- and that means we have to stop being greedy and think before we buy or hire. It means we have to close our borders and deport illegals on a mass basis. Do we, as weak-willed consumers, have the power to collectively do this? I hope so. Right now CA has a $38 billion deficit and we are legally required the educate the children of our four million illegals at $15,000 per student per year. In some sense, there does need to be a revolution against the courts and the gov't. It can happen at the ballot box w/o a shot being fired -- but then who cares enough to vote, right? All these poor slobs don't vote because they buy the lie that their vote doesn't count. That is the lie the ruling elites want you to believe. "Here, drink this bottle of Ny-Quil and go to bed. In fact, drink a bottle everynight because its apparent that you don't feel good and never will. We'll take care of things while you sleep."

Change or die: That is the motto of human existence. There is no use in whining and being a victim. Suck it up, get a degree in a high-demand field like healthcare, and you will have a job. Stay with your high school diploma, be ambitionless, and you will stand in lines for Gov't cheese. All the other victim excuses are bullshit that we can't do anything about anyway.
