Subject: Donald Rumsfeld should resign, or at least do all of his future briefings from inside of a foot locker

My dad did 20 years in the Air Force; My brother is in Air Force ROTC. In every conversation that I have with my dad about the then upcoming and now ongoing Gulf War II, he eventually says "Rumsfeld scares me" and confirms my reading of the guy a pinchy-mouthed arrogant prick that could very well go down in history as an amalgam of Robert MacNamara and Les Aspin.

Did anybody else think it strange when we rolled into Iraq, a country nearly 28 times the size of Kuwait, with on HALF of the troops of Desert Shield/Storm? Apparently Gen. Franks and the other folks in military had to beg Rummy and his little think tank friends for what troops we now have over there. He orginally wanted a super-lite and fast moving strike team dropped into Iraq of cap Saddam. Obviously he never saw Black Hawk Down. Donny, here's some free advice: When a guy with enough stars on his shoulder to qualify as a favorable movie rating is telling you that something is impossible, he is likely to be right.

Gen. McCaffery has not been at all bashful about rummy's piss-poor planning; Saying that doing what we intend with only 1 armored division is a bad idea (not to mention the 250 mi. long flank that they are hoping the Iraqis don't notice). They then had him split-screened with a civilian military analyst, say that he was jumping to conclusions, and maybe he should wait for things to play out, in that doughy and blustery manner that neo-cons have perfected in the past decade; he looked like one of those slightly porky guys that was too young for the draft in the 1960s and is too old for it now, but is inordinately "boo-yah" about things. Gen. McCaffery didn't roll his eyes, or get irritated with the guy, he just had the look on his face that seemed to say, "If I just let this guy runn at the mouth, maybe he'll tire himself out..."

And here is this little chestnut from CNN: Gen. Wallace stating "The enemy we're fighting is different from the one we'd war-gamed against, because of the paramilitary forces. We knew they were here, but we did not know how they would fight."

But in spite of all of this we have "Trustafarians for Bush" clogging up 5th Avenue. They run the risk of forever destroying what credibility the Left still has if the worst should happen and another attack should take place. How come no one is staging Die-ins in front of Haliburton, with big signs reading "Wake Up America, This Company Does Business with the Axis of Evil (TM)"

But no, that would be sensible, and in the true spirit of the 1980s revival, Democrats and the Left have decided to embrace virtuous uselessness.
