Subject: If you must buy an SUV, learn how to drive it!!!

Putting aside issues of gas consumption and the high probability of turning into hamburger anyone you hit in an accident, there is nothing more amusing than watching folks that seem to assume that they gain magical driving abilities by virtue of being in an SUV.

Example: About a month ago, my dad drove me home from State College to Altoona PA. Rural PA is definitely a region where an SUV comes in handy; Snow and twisty-turny, single-lane-in-both-directions mountain roads can be a more than slighty perilous combination.

Anyway, my dad made a point of driving more slowly than usual in his Forrester, but what really added more time to our trip was being stuck behind other SUV drivers that assumed that the best way to get out of being stuck was to spin one's wheels as uselessly as possible. Push the 4WD button? Shift into a lower gear? Pay attention to where I am going? Pah! What nonsense!

(sigh), oh well, at least this part of the country is relatively free of Twitchy Soccer Moms driving their hyperactive and overscheduled children all over the place...
