Protective gear to fight these nasties has not significantly advanced since the Gulf War. The bio suits they give soldiers are a joke; they will generally protect you from chemical and biological agents in a laboratory, where conditions are controlled--but not on a battlefield. On a battlefield, exposure levels can reach highs that will simply overwhelm the protective suits; and the suits get punctured and torn.

We can get ready for a whole nother round of Middle East Mystery Disease after this war is over. If Saddam has the bio and chemical arsenal that Bush claims he has, he'll be able to do as much damage to our troops as with a nuke. (But if he uses bio/chem weapons this time around, we'll know it; because of the Internet, I suspect that this war and its aftermath will be more transparent than any previously.)
