In my world, there is no meaning except that which you decide has meaning, and even most of that is a neurotic story you tell yourself to keep the meaninglessness at bay.

I had the experience yesterday of having no idea what was going to happen next in my life. Even my usual fantasies of my future were gone. This was a remarkable state, this ignorance because I was free from everything in a rare moment of utter ignorance and uncertainty.

People post here at the DB in various states of mind. Betsy, I could care less if you are drunk so long as you don't drive. The worst thing that could happen is that you would tell the truth. Everyone is afraid and life is an emotional problem altogether. But given that all things are equal, why not choose equanimity sometimes? It doesn't cost anything to be optimistic, it just takes some effort.

I am unemployed in a recession and I am working to find another job. This consumes me lately. When I was working I hated it, and now I cannot enjoy not working because I need to work for money. I would like to smoke a fattie and write about what goes on inside my head. The stuff in my head interests me a lot more than strange cities. Travel for me has always been business oriented and that has taken all the fun out of going to new places. Except Amsterdam. I wnt there on business and was able to smoke some hash legally and then walk around the red light district and see a live sex show. That was fun. It was a great violation of my American sense of reality. Those Dutch really know how to allow human appetities to be expressed in a way that is disarming and peaceful. There's no panting dog secret whore sex or the furtive hotboxing of a joint because it is all legal and so no one cares and no adults are scandalized because someone got high or got their clit pierced.

If I were rich, I would get a condo in Amersterdam and fly all of you over for a week long jammy party and reality adjustment.
