Subject: Virginians have spoken: Bush = Hitler!

That's right, gang! Even here in the ultra-conservative state of Virginia, a brave soul sent this letter to the Roanoke Times today.

"Bush and Hitler share similarities"

"While Glen T. Martin should be applauded for his Jan. 2 commentary, 'Without protest, Americans are giving up freedom,' he could have more accurately compared President Bush with Hitler than the United States with Germany.

"As examples, each gained entry into office under questionable circumstances, each in his obsession for power established a scapegoat as a means of diverting attention from domestic issues, and each surrounded himself with his own police force.

"Where I differ with Martin is that 'Americans now have no effective rights and do not care.' We still have rights, and we had better care because it will be our sons and daughters who will be coming home in body bags if we allow Bush's madness to continue.

"Martin is, of course, right when he says 'many are too terrified to speak out,' and this should terrify us all. but what can we do? First, it's an individual responsibility to see and understand where we are, and where we are going, and to use our voice (and vote) to maintain reason and sanity in Washington.

"We have it within our power, and it's our moral responsibility, to replace self-serving politicians with those dedicated to serving humankind and, above all, we must have the 'courage and integrity to speak out' while we still have a forum on which to do so."

well shazam! I think the author could have found a few more gripping similarities, but overall, I was just impressed that a liberal in Virginia had the balls to actually say something that is extremely anti-conservative.
