Subject: Kermit Washington basketball camp

Word is that AU and big Kermit are teaming up to host a basketball camp for Washington metro area kids in June. The camp will be highlighted by a free, open to the public all-star game on Saturday, June 14th at 2pm in Bender with a slam dunk contest (yikes!) to follow at 4pm.

Not sure if it is true, but that's what I heard.

Will he be teaching kids how to suckerpunch and almost kill players on the court? My son is missing that mean streak. I'm embarrased to say he's never thrown a punch out on the court, and he's almost 14! I'm hoping Kermit will show him how to be a man and truly live the motto "assault and battery - you too can live the dream..."

Give me a break--why don't you learn ALL of the facts about the story (from years ago I might add) before you run your mouth and judge another. Of course the media portrayed the story as big mean Kermit punches victim Rudy. Did you ever watch the footage of what was happening on the court? Would you let someone run towards you during a fight and not try to defend yourself? What would you do in a split second?! He didn't know whether Rudy was going to hit him or not, so he reacted.

Matt C is an idiot. Read the book Feinstein wrote "The punch : one night, two lives, and the fight that changed basketball forever", understand the facts of the story before you make your idiotic judgements.

ignoring the idiocy above, here's the release

Former AU standout basketball player Kermit Washington '73 will serve as host of the Pre-Draft Camp Game on Saturday, June 14, at 2 p.m. in Bender Arena. The players in the game have participated in the Ronald Perry and Eric Washington Memorial Hoop Camp for the past week. AU's Glenn Stokes will compete along with other players from the D.C. area and former NBA players. The game will be followed by a slam dunk contest. The winner of the dunk contest will be selected by a pool of judges including radio and TV reporter James Brown, former NBA standout Adrian Dantley, former AU men's basketball head coach and current executive vice president of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats Ed Tapscott, and former Georgetown University coach and current radio host John Thompson.

tix are 5 bucks... the question i want answered is whether glenn will be participating in the slam dunk contest....

[> AU SHOULD BE ASHAMED--IT'S A DISGRACE -- Jerome J, 17:30:01 06/17/03 Tue

It's a disgrace to try to rehabilitate this thug. Let's disassociate ourselves from his sordid legacy.

Can't fault him for what he is doing in Africa; it's a great sacrifice for others on his part.
