I thought it was very convincing. Maybe you're getting the fallout from the fact there was a fan at the set and she/he saw DJE and CB rehersing for the kissing scene and CB licked DJE and he licked her back and it got a little silly. They're both professionals but according to the fan both HAE and MAE wasted no time having fun and fooling around as well.HAE and MAE always joked about H&M. I went back and looked at them again when I read that someone thought they weren't actually kissing each other's lips, but I saw plenty of lip contact. And a whole lot of fire. I actually thought it was awkward too. If Harm had actually pulled Mac into his arms instead of keeping his hands on her upper arms the whole time it would have been much better. I thought the kiss itself was a little uncomfortable looking too. It just wasn't exactly what I would have like to have seen, but at this point I'll take almost anything that got them together. The only thing I noticed was that when they did the "rocking" thing that someone (I think it was Harm) had very shakey breathing going on..course it would be a little nerve wracking making out like that in front of the whole crew! Perhaps the awkwardness people think they see is due to the stools they were sitting on. It's not easy to balance between the stool, and I was looking for Harm's left hand which he was using to do just that, balance himself. I wondered why they set it up there. However, the facial expressions, and the breathless proposal from Harm were very realistic IMHO. Also they way Harm and Mac had that dreamy aura when they talked in between kisses - very realistic. I didn't see it as awkward... but it did look like they were holding back... at least until the last let fate decide, when her arms went up around his neck and she eased up closer to him.... you could tell they stopped holding back... It was realistic to me, and quite wonderful. The first two kisses, were new to them, and they did not pull close until the third kiss. You can see them pull into each other, which in my mind means they were moving right along to the next step. Sigh. Kissing in real life can be awkward at first as there is no rehearsal, and everyone kisses a little differently. The first and second kisses had the real sense of discovery, and that exquisite excitement about them. The third was more or less saying, "OMG I want MORE of where that came from!" I think real kissing--really good, real, hot kissing--is messy and sloppy and off target and then back on target and slippery and grabby and I think these kisses had all that. It wasn't staged and worked out for the best camera angles --well maybe it was, but it didn't feel that way to me...and I loved it. And with every kiss the camera gets closer and closer to their faces-as they get closer and closer. Maybe some people need neat and tidy in their kisses, but woo hoo, not me! They didn't want to stop kissing to talk, so they talked it out between kisses. The first kisses saying, "I want to be with you" then they both proposed in turn and the second set of kisses was a "Yeah baby! Finally, we're on the same page!" And the third kiss was the clencher, after everything was said and done, and he promised her forever. Then she wrapped her arms around his neck and completely gave in. I found it very convincing, and yes trying to stay balanced on barstools can't be easy with your eyes closed !!! I found the little "love bites" by H between some of those kisses to add to the 'reality' of it....between those, the real kisses, and the raspy voice for the proposal I was totally convinced and found none of it awkward... All the kisses by Harm and Mac are beautifully performed and it has the real romantic and dramatic fireworks. Ive never seen the fullest portrayals of love and sexual desire especially on that series finale and even the McMurphy kissywissy union.This two charged up the screen. The only thing that "bothers" me about the kissing sequences is that MAE seemed to keep her mouth closed more than she should have, lol. But it doesn't bother me enough to keep from watching the scene over and over again! Also, during the second set of kisses, Harm actually reaches down and pulls Mac onto his lap -- you can't exactly see it because of how the camera is positioned, but the movement is definitely implied.
