In reply to: Araninda 's message, "I'm confused about the whole timeline of what would happen next. They had to leave right away for their duty stations. Does that mean they won't see each other for awhile? How long would it be before whoever's resignation becomes effective? When would they have time to fit in a wedding & honeymoon?" on 01:34:14 05/15/05 Sun

I think they have a quicky ceremony before Harm has to leave. I'm going with Mac resigning. Less practical, therefore more romantic. She stays at HQ to serve out her "time" before her resignation is final (unlikely they would send her to SD if she is turning down the assignment to get out). So, I say in a few months, when all is said and done, Mattie a little better off, Mac takes off to the UK to househunt w/Harm and they take a Med cruise (some of the really nice lines like Silversea, Crystal and Windstar have Med cruises in the summer)for a honeymoon. (NT) -- CM>^.,.^< I just don't see the DD wasting time planning a big wedding at this point, 09:50:31 05/13/05 Fri

I wondered if they would send Mac to SD if she was going to resign. Makes more sense they wouldn’t since in a few months she would be out and with it being a new position could probably hold off on it until another candidate was found. Now if Harm was retiring would he still have to go to London until his request was processed or would they go and find someone else for the position that didn’t plan on retiring as soon as possible? (NT) -- Hope, 10:53:57 05/13/05 Fri

It would be unlikely which every one resigned/retired would leave HQ. They'd serve out their time doing what they ordinarily did. PCS orders (permenant change of station, ie, transfer) DO NOT get handed to you with 72 hours notice. TDY/TAD, yes, that's temporary, you come back in anything from a few days to a few months. To pack up your entire life even the military gives you more time. It was "dramatic license" to let them get together. We usually had some kind of notice (knowing you were leaving, but not always WHERE) four to six months prior. Most "tours" or assignments in the military are for a specific amount of time. An assignment like the ones H&M were in at HQ would have been for two to four years, most likely three. After that, they would have pulled a tour doing some other lawyering elsewhere, maybe in a staff rather than trial slot. They like everyone to be somewhat well-rounded. Two people (three, counting Bud) staying in one place like that would have been career suicide, lol! Harm's assignment in England would probably be three to four years, Mac's in SD the same. You can request a transfer prior to that, but they don't have to give it to you. They DO try to make provisions for married couples to at least be somewhat close by, but it's not guaranteed. The higher the rank, the harder it gets (less slots available). Also, AJ wouldn't have been 'the JAG' for more than three or four years either. It's dramatic "license" so they could keep everyone together. I seriously doubt they ever thought the show was going to run ten years.(NT)-- CM>^.,.^< when you say, "I don't wanna go" that is in effect, "turning down the assignment" so sending you there anyway is sort of futile, 11:42:02 05/13/05 Fri
