Ghost Ship

Harm and Mac investigate the murder of a Navy pilot whose body was found hidden aboard the decommissioned aircraft carrier the USS Hornet. With help from a local police lieutenant, they discover a motive for the crime, which involves a list of MIAs and POWs supposedly still alive and under KGB control in Russia -- and the list includes Harm's father. But before Harm can act on the information, the book mysteriously disappears along with the helpful police lieutenant, who is actually a KGB agent.

The Court Martial of Sandra Gilbert

Harm defends a top-rated female helicopter pilot charged with fraternizing with a married enlisted man. This episode introduces Congresswoman Bobbie Latham, who is determined to ensure the pilot’s fair treatment in court. But when the pilot is discovered to be pregnant, Harm’s defense strategy comes unraveled.

The Good of the Service

When Marine Lt. Col. John Farrow defies orders from superiors and rescues his men who are being held and tortured by a Haitian warlord, he is court-martialed. Harm and Mac are assigned as prosecutors and pitted against AJ, who assigns himself as defense counsel. Harm realizes there is a personal history between Mac and Farrow, but doesn’t learn the full story in this episode.

Blind Side

When an F-14 has a mid-air accident and the occupants are forced to eject, a mother and her child are killed on the ground by the falling debris. Mac is assigned to represent the pilot as Harm investigates the cause of the accident and the leader of the training mission, Capt. Hachausen, his former flight instructor and mentor. When Harm's probe reveals that the captain's been covering up eyesight problems and the pilot of the plane is covering up for the captain, Harm must decide whether to reveal his findings -- information that would certainly end his mentor's career. This episode, a blend of drama and comedy, features the scene where Harm jumps out of the convertible to diffuse a confrontation between Mac and Hachausen’s aide, Lt. Schiparelli.

King of the Fleas

When a wheelchair-bound former Vietnam POW arrives at JAG headquarters to report a murder he's just committed, Harm confronts a very complex individual who may know something about his MIA father. When Willie (an alias for Roscoe Martin) relates the fact that he was imprisoned with Harm's father and then blindsides Harm by claiming that his father was a turncoat, the information has a profound effect on the JAG lawyer. Willie, a very complex individual, has been waiting 30 years to tell his story in his own way. Ultimately, Harm finds out that Willie's murder victim was the contemptible, sadistic commander of the POW camp where Willie had been held and that Willie had been the turncoat.

Vanished

When a fully armed and piloted Navy F-14 disappears during a storm, the JAG team is called in to investigate all possible scenarios, from pilot suicide and terrorism to the curse of the Bermuda Triangle and UFO interference. Suddenly the plane's RIO surfaces in a Florida swamp, bloodied and disoriented. While AJ interviews the RIO, Harm and Mac uncover new information that steers them away from Twilight Zone explanations and instead points them in the direction of kidnapping, terrorism and a hard-core militia group's plot to assassinate a PLO delegation heading for Washington.

Against All Enemies

Harm, Mac and Bud board an aircraft carrier in the Sea of Japan to investigate the accidental shooting down of a North Korean civilian airline by Navy jets. Although negligence on the part of the Navy fliers is indicated, Harm and Mac uncover evidence of a spy aboard the carrier. This episode features the scene in which the female spy pours coffee into Harm’s lap.

Above and Beyond

A Navy SEAL, Lt. Curtis Rivers, is a candidate for the Congressional Medal of Honor after single-handedly rescuing the undersecretary of state from fundamentalist terrorists. Harm and Mac are ordered to conduct a background investigation before the medal can be awarded and find Rivers to be a very tough, complex and uncommunicative individual who is totally devoted to his country and his duty. But his men paint a different picture of him as a gung-ho loner who doesn't care about the safety of his team and botched the mission by leaving one of his men behind. Rivers finally agrees to open up to Harm -- but only if Harm can withstand arduous SEAL training for one day -- including the brutal manhandling required of the "hostage interrogation."

Impact

Harm and Bud investigate the mysterious crash of a helicopter. Witnesses claim the helicopter collided with a UFO, but Harm and Bud uncover a secret installation nearby that is developing a new prototype flying device for the military. When Harm approaches the installation, he encounters potentially lethal opposition to his inquiry from government security officials. In the meantime, Mac, who is dating Dalton Lowne, gives into the lure of a job offer from his civilian law firm and submits her resignation from JAG. This episode marks the first appearance of Harm’s nemesis Clark Palmer.

People v. Rabb

Harm is arrested and jailed for murder when the FBI finds him holding a smoking gun over a dead body of a Russian spy. Clayton Webb, knowing Harm is innocent, arranges for his jail break in the hopes that the real killer will try to contact him, thereby exposing himself -- but also putting Harm's life at risk. The real killer does make contact with Harm but then slips away, leaving Harm to be put on trial. Harm fires Carolyn Imes, his court-appointed JAG counsel, in favor of a civilian lawyer – Mac.

Defenseless

Harm's skills as a lawyer are challenged when he defends a female ensign who claims she murdered a Turkish military attaché because her "instincts" told her he meant to hurt her. The ensign claims that when the officer entered her apartment on false pretenses, she felt threatened by him and killed in self-defense. Though the defense is decidedly thin, Harm, who is attracted to the ensign, sticks with the case and wins. However, in an unexpected ending, Harm learns that the defendant is not who he has been led to believe that she is.

Someone to Watch Over Annie

Annie Pendry, the widow of Harm’s good friend Luke Pendry, comes to Harm for help after her young son, Josh, witnessed a murder while on a class trip to Andrews Air Force Base. After Harm and Josh are the targets of a drive-by shooting, Harm moves Josh and Annie into his apartment -- and into his life. Harm discovers that the original crime and the drive-by shooting are tied to a ruthless international arms dealer, but not before Josh is kidnapped by the dealer in order to silence him as a witness. This episode features a hot romantic scene between Harm and Annie in Harm’s apartment.

With Intent to Die

Admiral Chegwidden investigates the apparent suicide of his mentor, Admiral Clancy, who allegedly shot himself while on a hunting trip with several friends. Chegwidden can't believe that his friend would kill himself, and discovers that someone else may have actually pulled the trigger.

Father’s Day

Due to frustration at being unable to gain custody of his son from his drug addicted wife, Marine Corporal Wetzel was distracted during a war game exercise and crashed a tank. Accused of dereliction of duty, Wetzel admits to being diverted on the job, but insists that Mac and Harm must keep him out of jail, since his arrest would certainly mean losing his son. Harm and Mac like Wetzel and understand that his frustration accounts for his poor judgment. But nobody's more surprised than they when Wetzel winds up in a tank in a stand-off with the military, questioning why he's being forced to choose between being a marine and being a father. This episode features the scene where Harm and Bud share a bed because of a hotel room shortage due to a Quantum Leap convention (and DPB is shown in a cameo arriving for that convention).

Yesterday’s Heroes

When a luxury yacht owned by a reputed South American drug trafficker mysteriously sinks and the Navy is suspect, Harm, Mac and Bud travel to Florida to investigate. But the incident is traced to an unlikely group of vigilantes led by Artemus Sullivan, a decorated World War II Navy veteran. Sullivan wants to make sure the drug dealer responsible for his grandson's death is brought to justice. But when Sullivan is kidnapped by the drug dealers, Harm and Mac race to rescue the war hero. Meanwhile, Bud meets Harriet’s parents and learns she is wealthy. The ending scene features Mac in a bikini and Harm in white tank top & beach pants.

Chains of Command

After an admitted mistake, a carrier air-traffic controller claims a sex-for-leniency offer was made by a superior, Master Chief Sullivan, who was in Season 2’s “Crossing the Line.” Harm and Mac prosecute Sullivan and are pitted against Mac’s boyfriend, Dalton Lowne, who is defense counsel. During the trial, Mac is shocked when she discovers that Lowne has copied private information from her case file and she ends their relationship. In order to solve the case, and combat Lowne's dirty tricks, Harm enlists the aid of Congresswoman Bobbi Latham. This episode ends with the scene at McMurphy’s of Harm, Mac and Bud singing “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted.”

The Stalker

Mac is pursued by an unknown stalker, and she suspects that her ex-boyfriend, Dalton Lowne, is the culprit -- until he's killed during an apparent car-jacking and the stalking continues. AJ gives a party to introduce his daughter Francesca to the JAG staff.

Tiger, Tiger

Harm doesn't tell Annie that his sailing weekend with her son Josh is aboard a Navy frigate which is hosting a cruise for Navy families. The trip turns from pleasure to fear as the ship is taken over by terrorists who intend to fire missiles at Cuba. After Josh and Harm manage to elude the terrorists, they try to contact authorities about the situation. But the plan goes awry when Harm is found out, and he then tries to strike a deal with the terrorists before the children aboard get hurt. Annie ends her romance with Harm at the conclusion of this episode.

Death Watch

Flashbacks recall the probe of the murder of Harm's Navy-lieutenant girlfriend, Diane Schonke, who looked exactly like Mac. When Mac arrives at Harm's apartment and finds him armed and hell-bent on avenging Diane’s death, she stalls him while trying to disarm him. As she gets him to talk, he tells her how he's found the missing clue to the identity of the real killer of Diane. But when Harm tricks Mac and breaks away from her, she must take the information he gave her and figure out, with Bud’s help, where he's going and who he's after before he's wanted for murder. The end of this episode features the first kiss between Harm and Mac.

Imposter

Clark Palmer, a renegade government agent, breaks into Harm's apartment and incapacitates him. Palmer then makes a cast of Harm's face in order to prepare a mask that he can wear to pass for Harm. Palmer plans to murder the key witness in the trial of a Marine officer whom Harm and Mac are prosecuting for illegally supplying nerve gas used against a UN peacekeeping force. While Palmer appears in court disguised as Harm, Bud finds the real Harm trapped in his ingeniously booby-trapped apartment and the two must find a way to escape and keep Palmer from carrying out his assassination plan.

The Return of Jimmy Blackhorse

Bodily remains are identified as those of a missing Navajo code-talker, and the Pentagon makes plans to name a ship after the WWII vet. But a medicine woman contends that the remains are not her brother-in-law. Members of the JAG team encounter resistance from Navajo tribal elders when they insist on DNA testing to verify the human remains. Forensic pathologist Lt. Commander Teresa Coulter makes her first appearance in this episode.

Clipped Wings

Political pressures come into play after an F-14 pilot clips a ski helicopter during a NATO exercise over Italian airspace, killing six civilians. Harm defends the pilot and finds that a civilian aircraft, piloted by a young Italian girl, was involved.

Wedding Bell Blues

Bud has his hands full when his obnoxious and abusive father, Big Bud, and his younger brother, Mikey, arrive in town for Bud and Harriett’s wedding. But the going really gets rough when Big Bud decides to have a bachelor party for Bud at a boisterous strip club which leads to a fist fight that lands Harm, Bud and Chegwidden in the DC jail. A dry cleaner gives Harm’s dress whites to a male stripper, leading Harm to another club where Harriett, her mother and Mac are in the audience. Harriett’s wedding jitters are compounded by her meddling mother. Bud and Harriett’s ceremony features the military “arch of swords”.

To Russia with Love/Gypsy Eyes

In the first part, TRWL, Harm discovers that his father was taken to Russia after his plane was shot down over Vietnam. Harm and Mac journey to Moscow to investigate this decades-old mystery and meet a cab driver Alexei who helps them procure a MIG to travel to Harm’s father’s last known location. Harm’s mother is introduced in this episode, and it is the only appearance in the series of Harm’s stepfather. Harm and Mac share a hotel room, and this episode features the “what pajamas?” line by Mac when Harm says he’ll wait in the bathroom while she changes into her pajamas.

In the second part, Gypsy Eyes, Admiral Chegwidden, refusing to believe KGB accounts that say Harm and Mac died in an air accident, flies to Moscow to begin his own investigation. Harm and Mac survive being shot down and continue their search for Harm's MIA father. With the help of a gypsy brother and sister, they elude capture by a KGB search party and Harm finally learns what happened to his father.
