    There is a rumor that Howard Stern has been offered the job of replacing Simon Cowell on American Idol next year. If it is true, why wouldn't he take that job? I have no idea what kind of money he is being offered by either company, if there are any offers at all. Can Sirius XM offer him another $500 million contract for another five years? What is more likely to happen? Which company is likely to still be around in five years, Fox or Sirius XM? Why should Howard reamin in the satellite radio ghetto, when he can be in America's living room every week on American Idol?

    "American Idol" producers are eager to hire Howard Stern to replace Simon Cowell as the show's tough-talking judge, sources tell Page Six.

    An insider said that producers of the hit Fox show say Stern, America's highest-paid radio personality, is their top choice to take over from Cowell, who leaves at the end of this season. They approached the King of All Media after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January and he was open to other offers. Cowell was paid $50 million a year.

    A source connected to "Idol" said, "It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon.

    "They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him."

    But a second source told us Stern hasn't made the "Idol" talks easy, and has been giving out mixed messages about his intentions.

    "Despite what he's been saying on-air, Howard isn't ready to leave radio and would like to stay on at Sirius," the source said. "We believe this is a ploy to make Sirius pay up and keep him on his huge contract. But if Sirius can't pay him the money he wants, he may negotiate to film 'Idol' on the side."

    Stern is also believed to be reluctant to commit to a show that would require him to tour the US as a judge and spend much of the year in Los Angeles.

    He recently said, somewhat cryptically, "I was approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year -- and I did turn it down . . . I'm not even sure if I want to be working. I'm waiting to see what happens."

    Calls to Stern's agent and producer were not returned. A rep for FOX declined to comment.

    Flipped over to Stern during a commercial today and a caller said that O&A fans were fighting with Jillian Barberie on her twitter saying that Stern sucks and O&A were better. Stern was basically like "Oh, its good to see that she has time to fight with Opie & Anthony fans" and then laughed. That was all.

    American Idol finished up its road shows for this season tonight. Next week it's off to Hollywood with Ellen. I hope she works out well for the show. I still miss Paula. What will happen to the show next year without Simon? We shall have to wait patiently and see. After American Idol, I watched Ugly Betty. RuPaul was on the show, as well as a man in drag pretending to be Vanessa Williams. I understand that Ugly Betty might not be back next year. Where is America? Why can't she support such a fine show? I hope the last episode of the show features Betty having her blue braces removed from her teeth to reveal a lovely smile. Well, it's off to watch the Bravo series, Shear Genius. It's about styling women's hair. I really love my shows.

    howard Stern Show wannabe nemesis Chaunce Hayden is now going after the King of All Media's crown of lustrous locks.

    The D-List gossip columnist caught the attention of a Village Voice blogger on Tuesday after claiming to have insider information that Howard Stern's famous mop of curly black hair is a fake. Hayden claims that Howard Stern's coif is a product of Farrell Hair Systems-a New York City wigmaking company. His evidence? A signed photo of Howard Stern on spotted on the Farrell Hair Systems New York City salon wall.

    Hayden has been trying to incite an on-air feud with Howard Stern since he was booted from the Howard Stern Show in 2005. He recently published a merciless article ridiculing Howard Stern Show co-host Artie Lange for his violent suicide attempt and blaming Howard Stern for not responding to Lange's "cries for help" sooner. Hayden's attempt to bait Stern into a vitriolic on-air rage fell short. Howard Stern never even mentioned the article on air.

    Hayden is likely hoping that Howard Stern's vanity will force him to respond to claims that he wears a wig. If Howard Stern were to mention the story on-air, it would mean big business for his New Jersey based celebrity scandal ragsheet "Steppin' Out".

    I decided to listen to O&A. Within the first few minutes, they took a shot at Howard. They mentioned that Ozzy would be a guest and that he was a guest on "the other show" as well. Sarcastically, they said that the O&A show is the "other show". They complained that Ozzy's appearance was not being promoted on The Virus Channel, but it didn't matter, because they would do a better interview and have more fun with Ozzy anyway. This was within the first 5 minutes of the show.

    Later, they talked about how Howard was in negotiations because his contract was expiring. They mocked him by laughing and refering to him as "The King" as if its an inside joke.


    That said, I found the O&A show to be okay. Unfortunately, they discussed much of the same topics as Howard (the Super Bowl, Two & Half Men, WSJ article on Tiger Woods).

    With Howard Stern’s five-year, $500 million contract with current employer, Sirius XM Radio set to expire at the end of the year, speculation has swirled on whether the shock jock will sign a new contract or find greener pastures. Now the nation’s largest radio station owner, Clear Channel Communications is expressing interest in signing Stern to come back to FM radio. The radio network already has a couple well known outspoken pundits, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

    In 2006 Howard burned his free radio bridges, blasting his former employer, CBS, and its boss, Leslie Moonves, regularly on the air, and also got into a legal tussle with Clear Channel Communications after it stopped carrying his show in the wake of a Federal Communications Commission crackdown on indecency. John Hogan, CEO of Clear Channel’s radio division, told Bloomberg BusinessWeek earlier that the company’s interest depends on whether Stern would be willing to work within the limitations of over-the-air radio. As the LA Times writer Joe Flint reports, the plus side of Stern moving to satellite was that it freed him of scrutiny from the government, allowing him to say what he wants. The flip side of the coin is that since going to satellite Stern does not get the attention from the mainstream media and the general public that he used to command when he was on FM radio. So will he take a likely pay cut to get more attention?

    An executive for Sirius XM radio said Artie Lange, below, would remain a part of “The Howard Stern Show” and would be welcomed back to the program after he’s released from hospitalization. In remarks made Friday on “The Howard 100 News,” a news broadcast on Sirius XM that covers matters related to Mr. Stern’s show, Tim Sabean, the senior vice president of the Howard Stern channels said, “Artie is very much a part of these channels, and we look forward to Artie’s fast recovery and we wish him all the best.” Mr. Lange has been on an indefinite hiatus from the show since December. After several of his standup dates, including a performance scheduled for New Year’s Eve, were canceled, his representatives said that Mr. Lange had been hospitalized. The police told The Associated Press that Mr. Lange was hospitalized after he stabbed himself at his apartment in Hoboken, N.J. On his program Thursday, Mr. Stern said that the act was a suicide attempt, but has added that it was a private matter for Mr. Lange’s family to address.

    American Idol was in Los Angeles tonight. The show was taped over two days with Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry as guest judges. Katy Perry got a little testy with Kara DiaGuardi. I wonder what brought the cat claws out that day. One male contestant acted very femme and came on to Simon. Simon seemed really put off buy it. I guess that type of behavior is just not his thing. I understand that Simon and Ellen DeGeneres are rubbing each other the wrong way before they've even been on the air together, according to media reports. Is Simon glad to be bailing on the show at the end of this season?

    Artie is on Comedy Central Tonight, and in the early morning, at 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM eastern time, respectively. The 10:00 show is one hour. The 1:00 show is ninety minutes, leading me to believe there is more material because it's stuff that couldn't air in the earlier time slot because of censorship. Comedy Central runs raunchy, uncut material in the early mornings on weekends. It's lucky for me that I picked up a twelve pack of beer this afternoon. I think I'll enjoy a good laugh and a beer while watching Artie tonight. Artie Rules!

    The Tonight Show ends for Conan O'Brian tonight. He goes out being fucked in the ass by NBC and Jay Leno because they wouldn't get out of his way to let him be successful with the show. I wonder if Conan considered inviting Artie on to be his last guest. Maybe it's too soon for Artie to consider coming out in public. Is he capable of getting out of the house? It might brighten his spirits to get back to work. I know he used to appear on Conan's old late night show on a pretty frequent basis. It might do them both good to appear together now. They could say that they are both still standing tall, after a hard time, and they both intend to live well in the future. I see these things, but the networks don't see them.     There was a memorial service at The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. today. It was for George Michael, the late WRC sportscaster. He was a major broadcaster in this area for thity years. He died last month. Several NFL Hall of Famers, including Sonny Jurgenson and Art Monk, attended the service, as well as athletes from all major sports. Joe Gibbs gave a speech at the service. It was a nice send off for a sportscasting legend.

    I saw nude photos of new Senator Scott Brown on TV tonight. His hand covered his privates. However, you could still see his pubes. I'm surprised that it was allowed on prudish broadcast TV.
