Miss Trinidad and Tobago Earth 2005

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on you:
I admire my best friend Candice. She is so focused and self-assured. She knows what she wants and usually attains it.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you?
I was chosen to be a member of Trinidad and Tobago’s contingent for Carifesta 2003. Representing your country in a foreign country gives a great sense of pride and you experience a great love for your country. Performing there and being appreciated by so many other countries gave me a feeling of happiness that is hard to explain. I felt a true sense of Trinbagonian pride.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I would like to become a Human Resource Manager specializing in Recruitment and Training. I would also like to dabble in the field of Communications since I would love to effectively voice my opinions and adapt my approach in different situations. I have just finished by diploma in Human resources Management and I intend to follow up with my Masters. I would also like to achieve at least a Certificate in Mass Communications.

List any special talent you may have:
I have the ability to involve every one in a conversation.

What one world describes you best?
Confident

What is your life motto?
Live each day as if it’s your last. Sounds a bit cliché but this helps to keep me motivated.

What is your pageant platform?
Racism. Our country seems to be in a tug of war between people of African and East Indian descent. My ethnicity is mixed and at times I feel caught in between this unnecessary struggle. I believe that there was enough love to make a mixed creation then we should all be able to love and respect one another regardless of race.

Who is your favourite local personality/celebrity and why?
Machael Montano. He is like a work of art in motion. He is very innovative and has taken soca music to a higher level. He has the ability to excite an entire audience with his energy and amazing stage performances.

Jenna-Marie Andre just goes ahead and says it. "At the end of the day I think all the girls wanted the Miss Universe Crown."

But there is no trace of bitterness in her voice. There is no trace of bitterness in her at all. From the crinkle of her eyes to the width of her smile to the way her crown sits on her mass of bushy curls, Andre seems too free a spirit to dwell for long on near misses.

She is clearly enthusiastic about the Miss Earth and Miss Model International pageants for which she has been designated to represent the country. With a love for outdoor activity on the one hand, and modeling experience on the other, it seems as though she is a suitable candidate for both.

"I grew up in San Fernando," she says. And then, unbelievably, "I was a tomboy." She revisits her days of climbing trees and hiking up hills in as convincing a manner as one can muster in a pink, frilly top. If indeed she was a tomboy, she hasn't any scars to prove it. According to Andre, long before her turn-around, her mother had envisioned her as a beauty queen.

"This has always been a dream for my mother. I always thought that I'd do it when I'm ready and only recently I embraced it." Andre embraced with a bang. She won the Miss San Fernando City crown just before entering the Miss Trinidad and Tobago pageant. According to her, the pageant experience is one way for young ladies to maximise self- development. "And," she adds, "it's an opportunity to be an ambassador and put our country on the map." Maybe she wants to paint T&T in brighter colours.

And speaking of being colourful, Andre is the ultimate of callaloos. She isn't exactly certain about her ethnic make-up. ("I'll have to check with my mother," she says. "There's Amerindian, Portuguese, Indian, African...".) She is one of those that is too mixed up to take sides. During the pageant, Andre made the issues of racism and discrimination her platform.

"In Trinidad and Tobago we are not as hateful as some other countries are but we are very conscious about race. I love being Trinidadian. I love our culture. I love the fact that I'm all mixed up," she gushes.

Andre is very open as well about a childhood spent between separate parents.

"I never knew my parents together," she says. "I was always in between the two. Weekends here. Weekdays there. As a single parent it was tough at times for my mother," she says. "She had three kids to raise on her own. So basically everything I do is for my mom. She has been my backbone through this process. Her prayers keep me going every day."

Andre recalls a happy childhood, though. She says she was constantly occupied-at church, at school and at camps. She thinks it's made her able to relate well with other people.

During her late teens she began modeling with the House of Jaqui. For her it's a magical experience-the transition from girl to woman. Of course with her win comes the demand for less girl, more woman. A polished, stylish woman at that.

"I still try to get into my jeans and flats," she says. "I just dress it up some more. And I love make-up. If I don't need to wear it I won't... because we don't have to be dolled up all the time. But there's something about this experience... you want to look good."

Andre postponed her Human Resource Management degree in order to compete in the pageant and is looking forward to both her training and her entrance to the world of work over the next year.

In a world full of comets, it is a challenge to be a star. To be like a star is to really live, with a warm heart, always being there for those who need them. She really makes me think of Gabriella Oviedo,Miss Bolivia 2003/2004 and her strange statements.

HOW DID SHE DARE TO SAY THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE ALONE AND HAVE NO FRIENDS. YOU KNOW WHAT: SHE IS VERY FAKE SHE DIDN'T DESERVE THAT TITLE, SHE JUST HAD TRICS TO WIN, BUT LET ME SAY SHE IS THE WORST AND MOST FAKE QUEEN OF 2004!
YANINA GONZALEZ COULD MAKE A BETTER QUEEN THAN HER, YANINA BEATED FABIANE NICLOTTI WHO WAS THE REAL WINNER OF MISS BRAZIL 2004.
THERE MUST BE SOME REASON WHY PRISCILLA MEIRELLES PLACED FIFTH IN MISS BRAZIL.
AND IF IT WAS NOT HER TRICS, SHE WOULD NOT HAVE WON THE MISS EARTH CROWN.

AND THERE IS NO SINGLE CHANCE THAT PRISCILLA WOULD HAVE PLACED IN MU, IF SHE HAD WON THE MISS BRAZIL UNIVERSE TITLE.

FIRST REASON: MU DOESN'T NEED MONEY.
2ND REASON: MU DOESN'T APPRECIATE TRICS, THE JUDGES WILL NOTICE IN NO TIME IF YOU ACT OR NOT.
3RD REASON: THE GIRL IS A LITLLE OVERWEIGHT AND LOOKS FAKE, ESPECIALLY HER SMILE.

Tributes to my favorites
I want to give tribute to my favorites who didn’t made it to the semis and finals.

Miss Chile and Miss Colombia – you’re both best and stunners and beautiful in your unique ways. Chile has a mesmerizing eyes and Colombia has unique looks. I still don’t know why they were not included for 4 me they deserved to be there.

Miss Serbia and Montenegro – You were also a stunner like others, you really deserve to be in the finals. I thought she will continue the streak of Serbians Miss Earth because she definitely match the same winning presence of past Misses Serbians in the past Miss Earth.

Miss Puerto Rico – Shanira Blanco… I admit that I didn’t like her in the start as the representative of Puerto Rico but in the progress esp. in the pageant night she was more energetic and vibrant in personality. She exuded the real quality of Misses Puerto Rico. I know she deserves to be in the finals and she would be in the top 4 if she was in bec. She really had a good communication skill. Best of luck to her!
To this I’m calling the attention of Miss Puerto Rico Universe Organization to please send your best delegate next year ok!
Miss Nicaragua – Marifelly Arguello.. if she was pust in the finals for interview I know she would push through… she’s had a vibrant personality and has different inner glow radiance from her.

Miss Peru – Liesel Holler… now in Miss Earth you given enough attention unlike in Miss Universe. From the moment I knew that she will represent Peru & will come to Manila, I’m already excited! She had her own moments in the pageant segment actually she has many moment. Happy because she was in the semis but much more if she will be in the finalists… I know she deserves to be there and if she went through the interview I know she would push through the top 4 bec she had a good communication skill. Her beauty is really unique and awesome. I really love her!

  - Actually, any one who saw Miss India would tell you that not only is Jyoti fluent in english (although she does not have an anglicized accent), but also intelligent and well spoken, much more so than Shwetha Vijay last year. Miss EARTH - overview of delegates.

It already has been called the Paralympics of Miss Universe or of the pageant world, the Manila based organization is doing all it can to paint a positive image of this contest, a contest that is not considered serious anywhere outside its host country.
Delegates have been often considered atrocious and most of them would not win their respective countries MAINSTREAM beauty titles, speaking of mainstream, this contest seems to be anything but MAINSTREAM...

Filipino pageant commentator Joseph Vitrug did not make his early assesments of the delagates, so I will do that this year.

ALBANIA - VILMA MASHA
Pleasant enough for the 1st presentation, due to the lack of competition she could end up top 10 but her features are a little harsh. 5/10

ARGENTINA - DANIELA PUIG
That lady wouldn't have won her country's mainstream pageant 2/10

BAHAMAS - RAQUEL SIMONE HORTON
Although with experience, her relative pageant pattyness is a major turnoff, plus she's not that tall. 3/10

BELGIUM - RUCHIKA SHARMA
This delegate of Indian descent is pleasant enough but with 0 chances of winning the mainstream pageant against Ellen Petri 4/10

BOLIVIA - CARMEN MURIEL CRUZ
Very pageant-pattish, too much make-up but a pretty attractive face, she is short and would do nothing in either World, Universe or Int'l but here due to her experience she should be able to crack the top 10. 6/10.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - ANA SUTON
Tall but that about it, horrible gowns don't help her, also her smile is not the best. 3/10

BOTSWANA - LERATO KWELAGOBE
LOL, it's surprising to see Botswana's and Russia's delegates to have the last names of the former Miss Universe winners. I hope that Filpinos don't really think that it improves the overall image, because it's not. We know these tricks. 1/10

BRAZIL - PRISCILLA MEIRELLES
Competing strongly, a first in shape Miss Brazil in an international pageant in 2 or 3 years. Brazilians finally seem to understand that curves work only at home. Although make-up is not the best, she is certainly a favorite at this stage. 9/10

BULGARIA - KRISTIANA DIMITROVA
Pleasant enough, but rather not for the top 10. 4/10

CANADA - TANYA BEATRIZ MUNIZAGA
It's beyond belief that this country, full of glamorous beauties of all enhnicities could only come up with this delagte 2/10

CHAD - MYRIAM COMMELIN
Good début but she is more on a shorter side, so top 10 although a possibility is unlikely 5/10

CHILE - ERIKA SCHMIDT NIKLITSCHEK
She is the top 10 material by any means, although some think she looks a little fake she has plenty of potential to deliver and if Miss Brazil overdoes with her make-up, even for the main title, anyways she is a hot fave for one of the 4 crowns. 8/10

CHINA - XU "NICOLE" LIU
Going downwards, way downwards. 1/10

COLOMBIA - MARIA FERNANDA NAVIA
Horrible, I'm sure she has a nice personality but she is just so out of place. 1/10

COSTA RICA - KARLOTA CALDERON BRENES
OMG where to start, horrible make-up... I won't go any further 2/10

DENMARK - THEA FROEJKAER
I think she has had a couple of pretty polished presentations, although nothing makes her stand out, she is consistant and a possible top 10 finalist 7/10

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - NILENY ESTEVEZ DIPPTON
I guess, she is doing the best that she can, not the best facial features either. I think sheèll finish somewhere in the middle 4/10

ECUADOR - MARIA LUISA BARRIOS
She is delivering a pretty polished presentation overall, the organization behind her is professional, yeah yeah I know about her boobs sticking out but still this is a top 10 possibility 7/10

EGYPT - ARWA GOUDA
Another stronger delegate, if she plays it well she could finish 3-rd or 4-th with Miss Air title or Miss Water or sumpin'. 7/10

EL SALVADOR - SILVIA GABRIELA MEJIA
She has a great personality, but with St Vincent/Gernadines and Malaysia, she was the CELLAR-DWELLER of Miss Universe and nothing has changed, she is in one word totally UNCOMPETITIVE 0/10

ESTONIA - JANA GRUFT
Nice, this delegate will fight it out for a top 10 spot. 6.5/10.
ETHIOPIA - FEREHIYEWOT ABEBE MERKURIA
She has excellent features but we know that she is not strong in either interview or stage presence, yet her STUNNING FACE can carry her to the top 10, if she uses her experience here. 6/10

FINLAND - IIDA LAATU
Along with Ethiopia, she has the best face of the competition but unfortunately her evening gown was among the worst if not the worst, if she did well in SS and interview she will be in the top 10. 6/10

FRANCE - AUDREY NOGUES
She is trying her best. 2/10

GHANA - MAAME AFUA AKYEAMPONG
Being tall, if not enough, but her African looks can be a plus. 3/10

GUATEMALA - MIRZA ODETTE GARCIA
Honey, if you're 5’5" you should rather stay home even if you have something else ( like an OK face ) going for you. 3/10
HONDURAS - GABRIELA ZAVALA IRIAS
I like her, she is strong, has had nice gown choices,is performing well, almost certainly a top 10 finalist, but the top 4, although realistic may be a little bit too competitive 7/10.
INDIA - JYOTI BRAHMIN
She is trying too hard I think, but India has been going from bad to worse recently and this lady is weaker than the three previous M.E. India delegates. 2/10.
INDUS - ROMANA WILLIAMS
5’4" is really not enough Sweetie, BTW...if Pakistan doesn,t wanna participate then be it, don't hide the US or UK based Pakistanis behind this name, this is even a bigger joke than Miss Latin Mexico in Int'l last year. 2/10
ISRAEL - KEREN SOMECH
She was not my favorite at the Miss Israel pageant. They had a tremendous bunch of delegates there. 3/10
KENYA - ?
Nobody knows her name but she is unlikely to place. 3/10
KOREA - HEAJIN CHO
The best Asian this year I think and that by far, could be a semi-finalist if Filipinos ain't biaised against Korea. 6/10
LEBANON - LANA KHATTAB
I guess she is ok, but maybe not the top 10 material 4/10
LITHUANIA - KATHERINA GOLUBKOVSKAYA
Nice face and friendly presentation but I thinkFilipnos will want only one or two blondes, so probably she'll just miss it. 6/10
MACEDONIA - MARJANA STANOJKOVSKA
Not my favorite, she is doing the best she can. 3/10
MALAYSIA - ELOISE LAW
Another delagate that is doing a good job, but it's still unlikely she'll face. 4/10
MALTA - NADINE CASSAR
She is the best Maltese delegate in an Intl competition in ages, but make-up is at times only so-so. 6/10.
MARTINIQUE - MURIELLE CELIMENE
Not as strong as many led us to believe. I doubt she'll place. 2/10
MEXICO - VALENTINA CERVERA
OMG, it ain't gonna happen for Valentina and some of her gown choices are extremly questionable 1/10
NEPAL - ANITA GURUNG
Although short, she is doing the best she can and facially more beautiful than India. 3/10
NETHERLANDS - SAADIA HIMI
This Arab Dutch is a TRUE CELLAR-DWELLER, she don't remember having seen so out of place delegate from the Neths ever. 0/10
NEW ZEALAND - RACHAEL TUCKER
Might just enter the top 10, but it depends on how she performs. 5/10
NICARAGUA - MARIFELY ARGUELLO
She is pleasan enough, but it'll be difficult for a top 10 spot, but it's possible. 5/10
NIGERIA - UFUOMA STACEY EJENOBOR
I don't think she would win one of the 2 mainstream titles in Nigeria. 1/10
NORWAY - BIRGITTE KORSVIK
athough Finland would be my first choice among the blondes poor Iida had the worst gown since Endia Abrante, all of this pays well with Birgitte and her chances for a top 10 grew a lot. 6/10
PANAMA - JULIANNA BARRIGA
Not my 1st choice but she is doing an ok job. 4/10
PARAGUAY - YANINA GONZALEZ
I agree she is just tired and takes this contest as rather part of the Miss Paraguay package price ( or responsabilities )and not an important event her se and she is probably right. At this stage she is doing her best to avoid the winning yet to place as Air, Water or Miss Fire and this is where Yanina will probably end-up somwhere from 2-nd to 4-th but warning she can't become more disengaged now cuz she would be risking that top 4. She is a certain top 10 for sure, her looks are the ones from a MAINSTREAM pageant. 7,5/10.
PERU - LIESEL HOLLER
Liesel has amore appropriate make-up but her gowns are not good, and neither were they at M.U., she is strong in the interview portion, has pageant experience and has the name going for her, she will be able to place in the top 10 but top 4 uhmm it's difficult to say, I see here rather around 6-th place. 7/10
PHILIPPINES - TAMERA MARIE SZIJARTO
I think that Miss Philippines usually chooses better delegates than the old-fashioned Binibining or whatever it's called, this delegate is OKish, I think the last 3 years brought better delegates, if the contest was outside of the Philippines she would have not made it. 4/10
POLAND - KAROLINA GORAZDA
Va-va-voom, she is certainly one of the biggest favorites to win the crown and although Brazil has a better face, Karolina seems to be doing everything right, her gown was among the best, she is 6 feel tall and has an excellent make up, I believe that she could beat Brazil or if not fight it out with Chile and Paraguay for the 2-nd to 4-th place. Very strong. 8/10
PORTUGAL - FREDERICA SANTOS
Another weak delegate, out of place. 1/10
PUERTO RICO - SHANIRA BLANCO
She is trying too hard, at times she comes across more peagnt-pattish than Joyce Giraud, she won't finish high even though she's trying. 2/10
RUSSIA - ALEXANDRA FEDOROVA
It ain't gonna happen for her. Miss Russia Intl is totally stronger in every single way. 1/10
SERBIA & MONTENEGRO - KATARINA HADZI-PAVLOVIC
She's always been a top 10 delegate but what's particular is that she is almost certain to place in the top 10 but at the same time she is almost certain NOT to place in the top 4. It proves that the delegates fromthe mainstream national contest do so much better. She has had a good presentation and despine not having the best facial features she is doing ok. 6.5/10
SINGAPORE - NICOLE SZE
It's a pleasant enough delegate who, with a little polishing could easily be a Miss Singapore ( Universe ) in 2 years. She does everything right but top 10 I think would be too much asking 5 /10
SOUTH AFRICA - SALLY LEUNG
I think that this Chinese South African's make-up has been horrible and that she could be so much better styled, it's beyond belief that she is styled had badly and her gows don't help, yet she has such a pleasant face 4/10.
SWEDEN - SARA JILENA LUNDEMO
Her performance is among the most modern yet most pleasant ones, in a modern pageant she should be in the top 10 but we know that modern looking delegates is not what Miss Earth is looking after. 6/10
SWITZERLAND - SIMONE ROETHLISBERGER
Although nice in some presentations, Simone would have really struggled in the recently concluded Miss Switzerland 2004 pageant. 2/10
TAHITI - STÉPHANIE LESAGE
It really depends if the looks Stéphanie has is your thing or not, but having said that, she is also a top 10 favorite. Not my cup of tea, she could bring a good results back to the Oceania. 6/10.
TANZANIA - SOPHIA BYANAKU
This B.A. Sociology Student has one of the best environmental plans for the Miss Earth Org. She should do very well in the interview part of the competition. 2/10
THAILAND - RATCHADAWAN KHAMPENG
She is very nice and could be a semi-finalst, very good looking face is on of her plusses, my 2nd bet from Asia, after Korea. 6/10
TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO - LEAH MARI GUEVARA
She has the height and the interview, a polished swimsuit presentation and a mainstream national pageant support. Leah Mari should be able to in the top 10 with no major difficulties. 6/10

UKRAINE - TETYANA RODINA
Well, this is not the best choice from this nation, but she is certainly not in the worst group. 3/10
USA - STEPHANIE BROWNELL
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Stephanie has a great personality but having said that I think that her official 155 lbs only a little bit suspicious. She has the worst styling one can imagine, really the worst. The green gown is horrible and very old-fashioned and the national consume was just simply bought at a corner store. Even in the least competitive state like Delaware or Wyoming, Stephanie would have struggled to make it into the semi-finals. Along with the Netherlands and El Salvador she is the least competitive delegate of this pageant extravaganza. 0/10
VIETNAM - BUI THUY HANH
Nice, but top 10 is almost certianly of her reach. 3/10

Miss Earth 2004 winners Priscilla Meirelles, Murielle Celimene, Kahaia Lesage & Yanina Gonzales has started with their activities after winning Miss Earth titles last Sunday night. On Thursday they will leave for Bicol and Boracay (October 30) for series of engagements. 10/26

Puerto Rico's Shanira Blanco is the new image model of Leonardo bags joining Kris Aquino. Half-filipina Shenevelle Dickson is not far behind with Pond's announcing interest in her as endorser. 10/26

Brazilian wins Miss Earth beauty pageant

Priscilla Meirelles, a medical student from Brazil, was named Miss Earth 2004 Sunday, winning a beauty pageant that promotes environmental concerns.

Meirelles, 21, bested 60 other candidates for the title in suburban Quezon City.

There are no first and runner-up finishers in the competition _ each of the final four receives a title. Yanina Gonzalez, a 24-year-old marketing student from Paraguay, was named Miss Fire; Murielle Celimene, an 18-year-old student from Martinique, was Miss Air, and Stephanie Lesage, a 20-year-old social economics student from Tahiti, was Miss Water.

The Miss Earth pageant, launched three years ago by a Philippine production outfit, requires candidates to be aware of environmental problems faced by their respective countries.

During 3 1/2 weeks in the Philippines, contestants helped clean a beach of trash, did farm work, planted mahogany trees, biked to promote clean air and released schools of fish into a reservoir in the north ahead of Sunday's event, organizers said.

Among the 11 judges was Vida Samadzai of Afghanistan. She was a contestant last year, when she was condemned in her conservative homeland for appearing in a bikini. There was no Afghan competitor this year.

I want to give tribute to my favorites who didn’t made it to the semis and finals.

Miss Chile and Miss Colombia – you’re both best and stunners and beautiful in your unique ways. Chile has a mesmerizing eyes and Colombia has unique looks. I still don’t know why they were not included for 4 me they deserved to be there.

Miss Serbia and Montenegro – You were also a stunner like others, you really deserve to be in the finals. I thought she will continue the streak of Serbians Miss Earth because she definitely match the same winning presence of past Misses Serbians in the past Miss Earth.

Miss Puerto Rico – Shanira Blanco… I admit that I didn’t like her in the start as the representative of Puerto Rico but in the progress esp. in the pageant night she was more energetic and vibrant in personality. She exuded the real quality of Misses Puerto Rico. I know she deserves to be in the finals and she would be in the top 4 if she was in bec. She rally had a good communication skill. Best of luck to her!

Miss Nicaragua – Marifelly Arguello.. if she was pust in the finals for interview I know she would push through… she’s had a vibrant personality and has different inner glow radiance from her.

Miss Peru – Liesel Holler… now in Miss Earth you given enough attention unlike in Miss Universe. From the moment I knew that she will represent Peru & will come to Manila, I’m already excited! She had her own moments in the pageant segment actually she has many moment. Happy because she was in the semis but much more if she will be in the finalists… I know she deserves to be there and if she went through the interview I know she would push through the top 4 bec she had a good communication skill. Her beauty is really unique and awesome. I really love her!

My heavy favourite in Miss Universe 2004 is coming to Manila for Miss Earth! Miss Peru Liesel Holler... definitely has a chance to land in the finals. Go Liesel!

Peru was not given an attention in Ecuador for Miss Universe but in Miss Earth she will definitely rock and get attention for her stunning beauty.

Some articles about beauty pageants are written on the Internet really to try to make people misunderstood.

I was reading on Global Beauties web site that the delegate of Brazil in Miss Earth, Priscilla Meirelles, besides being a favourite in Miss Brazil pageant all the time before it, as she is now in Miss Eart, during the final night she didn´t shine as she was expected to and lost the title of Miss Brazil, ending in 5th place.

But what is the most important thing to say they didn´t say: Priscilla entered into another national pageant to get the right to represent the country in Miss Earth. She took participation at BELEZA BRASIL PAGEANT (Beauty Brazil pageant), representing Amazonas, her State, and WON the title, becoming the brazilian representative for Miss Earth.

PRISCILLA DOESN´T COME FROM MISS BRAZIL PAGEANT, WHERE SHE WAS PLACED IN 5TH PLACE (very strange position, as she was the huge favourite), AS THE COUNTRY REPRESENTATIVE IN MISS EARTH!

SHE COMPETED AT BELEZA BRASIL PAGEANT AND WON THE RIGHT TO BE IN MANILA TO REPRESENT BRAZIL And at that pageant she was shinning all the time as she has been shinning in Miss Earth! She was stunning, smart, fantastic in all the steps of the Beauty Brazil pageant!

So, it´s strange when people say (may be a brazilian, because of the knowledge of all the brazilian pageant´s details) that as she didn´t shine during her presentation in Miss Brazil pageant´s final niht, maybe she won´t shine also in the final night of Miss Earth. BUT IT´S NECESSARY TO SAY THE SHE DID WONDERFULLY DURING THE BELEZA BRASIL PAGEANT´S FINAL NIGHT, in which she got the right to compet at Miss Earth.

It´s sad to notice that Global Beauties page had to accept the decision of the webmasters (Priscilla in the first posision), but, in fact it´s coordinators (at least part of them) seem to hope a bad position for Priscilla in Miss Earth.

It´s not Priscila´s fault or Beleza Brasil pageant´s fault that none of the Miss Brazil pageant´s winners are doing good in her international representatations. It´s not their fault if, even Global Beauties tried to construct a favouritims for a certain brazilian delegate, it didn´t work. Maybe because of those kind of ations Global Beauties web page is loosing it´s credibility day by day.

I am brazilian and I know what I am saying:ONCE MORE, IT´S NECESSARY THAT ALL THE PEOPLE KNOW THAT PRISCILLA MEIRELLES DOESN´T REPRESENT THE MISS BRAZIL PAGEANT IN MISS EARTH.
THE MISS BRAZIL PAGEANT DOESN´T HAVE THE MISS EARTH´S FRANCHISE!

We are fast approaching the final night and everybody is excited as the competition goes tense and wilder than ever. Who do you think would wear the crown next? Would it be Miss China, or Korea, or Tanzania? Whoever shall win, for sure, she really deserves the title by defeating the 60 other gorgeous girls. Meanwhile, I commend the Carousel Productions for such a healthy year of glamour, commitments, and fame- the Miss Earth 2004 pageant in Manila once again! I also show gratitude for the candidates who are doing well in the tilt. Here are the stunners...

Miss Poland (Karolina Gorazda)- Everything goes right for this Polish bet but her make-up is something that distracts me. I love the way she poses and her body is really down to earth, matched with her 6'0 height. Karolina is really trying that hard to continue Poland's placement since last year or even to win the crown.

Miss Brazil (Priscilla Meirelles)- She is the new Miss Cyber Press Earth, undeniably beautiful, her skin is so smooth, her smile so fresh. The only problem of Priscilla is that sometimes, she lacks confidence; her hairstyle and make-up doesn't fit her somehow round face.

Miss Philippines (Tamera Marie Szijarto)- The New Zealand Betting House thinks that this host girl will take the cap away because of her radiant white skin and conservativeness. She's not smiling properly sometimes, though. So far, Tamera is the best Filipina delegate and there's no reason why she'll fail to enter the semifinals.

Miss Thailand (Radchadawan Khampheng)- Wow! This girl really rocks! Her stage presence can be felt in any angle and her body is something that you'll never forget. Moreover, Radchadawan won two minor awards already- Best in Swimsuit and the Gandang Ricky Reyes Award.

Miss Puerto Rico (Shanira Blanco)- Every time you face Shanira, you'll appreciate her outstanding personality. She's a lively spitfire that exudes charisma through her fashion sense and daring looks. In my opinion, she surpasses the pageant's standard. Thumbs up for Puerto Rico this time.

Miss Paraguay (Yanina Gonzales)- I'm not sure if she's really serious in what she is presenting. I personally don't like her new blonde hair but her spunk is still there.
Yanina should remember that Miss Earth is a major beauty contest and she needs to show more than what she did in Miss Universe. Besides, she might turn out to be like Cindy Nell of South Africa who was second runner-up in Miss Universe but did not even place in Miss World last year. Yanina should work harder to secure a Top 4 slot or in order to be the next Miss Earth.

Miss Trinidad/Tobago (Leah Marie Guevarra)- She's the catwalk diva of the batch. Leah is doing just fine in her presentations. At the same time, she is the best black delegate around. I just hope that she can penetrate in the semis.

Miss Bolivia (Muriel Cruz)- They are back! Muriel will not let her country to be an outsider again. My top favorite, she has the experience that will teach her the right moves in this competition. Her face is very angelic; she also might double Bolivia's Miss Photogenic Award and pull an upset after Claudia Azaeda's exclusion from the Top 10 last year. Muriel's simple gown is sophisticated and a killer one; her va-va-voom body could leave you freezing cold. She's extremely the goddess of the earth!

WHO WILL BE MISS EARTH 2004? - 10/23

Out of the four most popular beauty pageants in the world (Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth), Miss Earth is certainly the most unpredictable. In its first edition, back in 2001, Miss Denmark, Catherina Svenson, "came out of nowhere", as she was barely mentioned by Filipino sites covering the event, to capture the crown.

In 2002 Miss Bosnia's victory was expected (winner of several awards, including "Webmasters' Choice), however, the group of finalists was very surprising. Who would have imagined Misses Kenya (1st runner-up who would later in that year become Miss Earth, as the winner was dethroned) and Greece among the 4 finalists, or India out of the top 10?

Then in 2003, although the winner from Honduras was always among favorites, semifinalists from Norway, Tahiti, Guatemala and even the Philippines, made the cut leaving behind stunners from Bolivia, India, Vietnam, Dominican Republic, Japan, among others.

With that all said, we may go over the "front-runners" and "possible finalists", but being certain of one thing: we can expect some unbelievable surprises.

Here is GB's take on this years' Miss Earth beauties (with their odds to win), beginning with the girls from Africa and the Middle East...

AFRICA & THE MIDDLE EAST

FAVORITES TO WIN: Egypt (6/1)

Miss Egypt is one of her country's best representatives ever. She has beauty, sex appeal, and exotic looks: a Mediterranean stunner who could take it all. Ethiopia made headlines both in Miss Universe and Miss Earth. She should be up there. Lebanon was noticed by the cyber press, who placed her among the contest's top 12 beauties. Many expect Tanzania to pull a surprise and place among semifinalists, while Chad, participating in a 'big 4' for the first time ever, could also beat the odds and do something interesting tomorrow night.

It's not one of the strongest European batches in pageant history, but there are some serious standouts here to be taken into account. Miss Poland, a former Miss World contestant, has all it takes to bag the crown: she is tall, gorgeous and walks like a model. Her flaw would be not falling into the "old-fashioned" beauty queen type. Another sexy stunner is Miss Serbia & Montenegro, a country which could have its 3rd straight Miss Earth semifinalist. Albania is also in many favorites' lists, while Finland, Estonia and Sweden, three blondes, certainly please the oriental taste for beauty. On the other end we have Miss Portugal and especially Miss Switzerland, who, honestly speaking, should be somewhere else. Inner beauty may be essential in a beauty contestant, but physical beauty should be a REQUIREMENT.

NORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICA

The new Miss Earth is probably not in this part of the world. Nicaragua has done most things right in Manila, and with her experience and charisma, could easily land in the semifinals. Honduras is among some web sites and Filipino fans favorites. We still wonder why, but they could be right. Our #1 pick from these beauties, although barely mentioned, is Miss Canada, who has one of the most stunning faces in the competition. What a lovely surprise it would be to see her among Miss Earth 2004 finalists! As for Miss USA, can't the organization get someone more competitive from the country which promotes the most beauty pageants in the entire globe?

We don't see many delegates from the Caribbean islands competing in 2004. However, 3 of them have good chances to do something positive here. Miss Martinique was a Cyber Press finalist and has enough beauty to go far in the competition. Miss Trinidad & Tobago is reported to be among the most elegant and fashionable. Her face is not among the best rated though. Miss Puerto Rico, although short, is well prepared and has lots of pageant experience. She has more than a couple of fans pulling for her.

SOUTH AMERICA

This South American group is so exciting, that not even Venezuela's absence was able to cause as big of an impact as it could have. Misses Brazil and Paraguay are considered by many the two women to be beaten. Of course favoritism alone won't take them anywhere. The Brazilian beauty, for instance, was a huge favorite to win the Miss Brazil Universe crown earlier in the year. Her performance at the night of competition passed unnoticed, and she ended only in 5th place. However, if she shines, Miss Cyber Press could easily walk away with the crown. Paraguay is another good example. At Miss Universe's preliminaries she did enough to place, but her performance was far from the brilliant one she delivered at the final night, when she was named the Universe's 4th most beautiful woman. Bolivia was a Miss International semifinalist and elected Bolivia's Olympic Beauty 2004 (best Bolivian delegate from 2000 to 2003). Chile, Colombia and Peru are all expected to place among finalists as well, while Argentina and Uruguay, two former Miss World contestants, have the tools to surprise the planet. Miss Earth could be among these incredible South American beauties.

ASIA AND OCEANIA

Asia has never had a Miss Earth winner, and the home-town girl, Miss Philippines, an European-Asian beauty, has the looks and the brains to pull it. Miss Thailand, winner of several awards, is also had as a possible winner, just like Miss Tahiti, an exotic stunner from the French Polynesia who certainly can dream with the crown. Lovely but little noticed Korea, could surprise more than one. India will attempt to have a second Miss Earth semifinalists. Indian fans believe their beauties have been discriminated against by Filipino judges in the past. Miss Vietnam is also beautiful and exotic enough to pull a surprise. Miss Australia, a native of Canberra who placed 2nd in the Miss Filipino-Australia pageant, has her hopes high as well.

So who do you think will be Miss Earth 2004? Will she once again come from a country which has never succeed in the other grand slam pageants?? Or will she come from a traditional pageant powerhouse?? We shall see..

In less than 12 hours, a new Miss Earth will be chosen. Missosology will present to you its Top 16 Predictions tomorrow morning. We saw which beauties remain fresh and beautiful during their rehearsals at the ABS-CBN studios and UP Theatre.

During the preparations for the final night, many delegates complained about the biased managing of the dry run. The favorites and the so-called front-runners were usually called in the "mock semifinal round." The "favoritism" dampened some of the girls' spirits.

Missosology found an interesting anecdote from Miss Thailand. Rathcadawan told us that she is actually studying in one of the biggest universities in Norway. When she flew to Manila, the Thai beauty was surprised to see her schoolmate and close friend, Birgitte Korsvik who happens to be Miss Norway Earth. "It's a small world!," she says with a big smile.

We've seen all girls as they take turns on the ramp. They were given the benefit of working on their catwalks for the swimsuit & evening gown rounds. Misses Martinique, Poland, Netherlands and Trinidad & Tobago move expertly like supermodels. If Tahiti's Stephanie Lesage resembles Miss World 2002 Azra Akin, we also found great resemblance of Miss World 2001 Agbani Darego to Miss Martinique, Murielle Celimene.

This year’s stage looks fabulous. The splendid colors and backdrops reflect the environmental theme of Miss Earth.

Watch out for the opening number of the Miss Earth delegates! The dance steps were drawn from Panikipikan (a cultural dance in the Philippines). Choreographers Lemma Diaz and Joane Laygo of Hotlegs added sexy twists to their number. Celebrity & Image Model Marc Nelson & MTV Vj Sarah Meier are the hosts of the event. Piolo Pascual, an award winning actor and singer will serenade the 8 finalists. Johnny Manahan is the chief director of the final night.

• MISS EARTH CRITIC, PART II: All this heated discussion going on in several pageant message boards regarding the lack of so-called "beautiful" candidates in this year's Miss Earth pageant has made me reflect, once again, on the very notion of beauty. We all heard of the cliché "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but such a cliché may not be applicable in a pageant when the beholder is being judged by a non-beholder.

We all have our own definition of beauty, and it is impossible to arrive to an absolute definition of beauty simply because like all the other abstract notions that exist (love, happiness, anger, joy, etc.), beauty cannot be measured by any type of instrument. What one considers beautiful may be viewed as "pretty", "less pretty", "plain" or "ugly" by others, and every year, in every beauty pageant, you will always encounter contestants whose physical beauty may either impress or disappoint the judges and pageant observers. There is no such thing as a totally "beautiful" beauty pageant where every contestant satisfies your own definition of beauty.

Critics who protest the so-called lack of beautiful candidates in this year's Miss Earth may have become obsessed with plastic and artificial beauty, such as, that they have been influenced by the Barbie-doll type of beauty or perhaps by social and cultural conditioning, or perhaps by Western standards of beauty. These critics, including myself, may be guilty of putting too much value on artificial beauty that we have forgotten how to admire simple and natural beauty. We don't know how Miss Earth officials arranged their contracts with national organizations; perhaps Miss Earth is looking for someone fresh and natural this year, and some national organizations took this literally. Thus, we see a "plain" and "unattractive" Miss Switzerland, Simone Roethlisberger, 20, (see photo) or a short Miss Portugal or other girls who did not subject themselves to plastic surgery or permanent make-up. Perhaps this is Miss Earth's way of telling the world that we also accept non-plastic beauties. We are forgetting that these girls are also ambassadors of goodwill, and that they have come to promote their nations and cultures, to exchange and to share information about the environment, and for this, they deserve to be applauded. Some came perhaps just to make friends and not necessarily compete to win. Miss Switzerland comes from a wealthy and highly industrialized nation; perhaps she has knowledge and solutions that other girls may not have as far as improving the environment. Knowledge is also beauty. We cannot say that Miss Switzerland or the other "plain-looking" girls are ugly or horrible; when you meet them, perhaps they radiate a certain aura that surpasses all physical beauty and that may capture the hearts of the judges and the public.

MISS EARTH TALENT COMPETITION

24 beautiful and talented ladies showcased their skills during the Talent Competition of the Miss Earth 2004 at the Casino Filipino in Angeles, Pampanga. Amidst the strict regulations of the management of PAGCOR regarding the restriction on camera use within the area of the casino, we still enjoyed the whole show. Carousel unselfishly offered to use their photos taken during the event.

The show was hosted by seasoned emcee Raffy Ruiz and was attended by handsome celebrities in showbiz with the likes of Brad Turvey, Marc Nelson and Jeoff Rodriguez of the Power Boys fame.

Here are the ladies in their order of appearance:

Miss Nicaragua, Marifely Arguello – She chose a modern jazz dance which impressed the crowd with her faultless routine during her performance.

Miss Chad, Myriam Commelin- She danced to the tune of an ethnic up beat song from her native country. Myriam was a welcome treat to the audience since this is the first time that Chad sent a delegate to Miss Earth.

Ethiopia, Ferihiyowot Abebe Merkuria- Another fast ethnic dance number was what Miss Ethiopia prepared for the competition. Her performance was nearly flawless with approval from the roaring crowd.

China, Xu Nicole Liu- Nicole sang a Chinese ballad song. It tells the story of love that triumphed against the odds.

Israel, Keren Somech- This lovely lady did a Madonna classic as she belted the pop song Material Girl complete with props such as jewelries and flowers.

Colombia, Maria Fernanda Navia- Mafe interpreted a native dance called El Natareno that depicts the story of a man and a woman.

Dominican Republic, Nileny Estevez Dippton – This promising actress of her country showed her prowess in acting as she portrayed a woman who lost her sanity through a monologue.

Guatemala, Mirza Odette Garcia- She danced to the tune of Christina Aguilera’s “Me Against the Music”. She effortlessly gyrated on the stage, and did some magic tricks before she ended her performance.

USA, Stephanie Brownell- This lady belted the immortal theme from the movie Titanic, “My Heart Will Go On”. Her moving and haunting rendition drew a thundering applause.

Brazil, Priscilla Meirelles- Priscilla did a Brazilian up beat number complete with carnival costumes and pyrotechnics.

Nepal, Anita Gurung- Anita’s performance was an instant hit with the audience as she gracefully swayed and interpreted an Indian dance spot number.

Martinique, Muriel Celemine- She rendered a song a capella from the movie Prince of Egypt, “When You Believe”. Her husky voice complemented her classic beauty that reminded everyone of Whitney Houston.

Canada, Tanya Beatriz Munizaga- For many, the winner of the competition. Tanya was at her best when she sang the classic “Proud Mary” with much gusto.

Netherlands, Saada Himi- This half Indian girl showed her talent in poetry reading. She shared an inspirational piece entitled “The Beauty of Life”.

Egypt, Arwa Gouda- One of the early favorites in the contest, Arwa displayed her talent in belly dancing and wowed the audience with her perfect figure and chiseled cheek bones.

Malaysia, Eloise Law- Eloise sung a Mandarin pop song with a Latin beat. Her number was a welcome alternative to the traditional Chinese songs.

Peru, Liesel Holler- She performed a salsa dance number with a very handsome gentleman from Israel. She wore a very revealing body hugging casual dress.

South Africa, Sally Leung- She sang a touching song about the struggle of her countrymen to attain independence and equality to whole South Africa.

Vietnam, Bui Thuy Hanh- Miss Vietnam showed her talent in floral arrangements. Bui was one of the last delegates to arrive.

Poland, Karolina Gorazda- She danced to the tune of a Chopin classic as she interpreted the symbol of their national flag. Karolina was indeed one of the crowd’s favorite.

Puerto Rico, Shanira Blanco- Shanira did a Puela, a native Caribbean dance matched with a flashy costume. She took the stage with her strong presence and convincing performance.

Tahiti, Stephanie Lesage- Another front-runner for the Miss Talent award, Stephanie got the nod of whole arena as she gracefully rendered a traditional Tahitian number.

Estonia, Jana Gruft- She did a sexy dance number ala Christina Aguilera. Her performance was abrupt due to some technical problems, but nevertheless, she had a wonderful performance.

Ecuador, Maria Luisa Barrios- Luisa danced to the tune of “Put the Blame on Me’ by Rita Hayworth. She nostalgically essayed a 1950’s dance that got cheers from middle-aged guests.

The winner of the talent competition will be announced on the 24th of this month at the UP Theatre during the Finals night of the Miss Earth 2004.

Miss Earth 2004 beauties start NLuzon tour in Clark

CLARK ECOZONE -- Delegates to the Miss Earth 2004 beauty pageant, coming from 73 countries, visited the Clark Special Economic Zone (CSEZ) Sunday, signaling the start of an 11-day caravan tour of the North Philippines dubbed as "Discover Beauty, Go North."

Mayor Carmelo "Tarzan" Lazatin welcomed the delegates, pageant organizers, chaperons and other staff as they arrived in this former American military facility during a brief program and lunch hosted by the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) at the Clark Museum.

The Miss Earth 2004 contestants also drove bicycles in going to the Clearwater Resort for a "Clean Air" biking tour organized by the CDC Tourism office, headed by Edna Eufemio and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) officials headed by Secretary Michael Defensor.

Eufemio said the biking event participated in by the international beauties, as well as local bikers, was designed to promote "clean air" awareness which is one of the major advocacies of the Ms. Earth Pageant.

Clark Ecozone was the first spot outside Manila that the delegates visited after they were presented to the media for the first time last Friday by pageant organizers, Carousel Production Incorporated.

Arriving on three buses, the contestants were accompanied by Undersecretary Renato V. Diaz of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for North Luzon (OPNL), which spearheads the North Luzon Caravan.

Diaz said the caravan is jointly being staged by OPNL with Skoal Advertising Inc., Carousel Productions Inc., and ably supported by Defensor and Secretary Ace Durano of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Diaz said the holding of the North Luzon tour event is in support of President Arroyo's concrete example to raise environmental awareness and promotion of North Philippines as a major tourist destination in Asia.

"We are lucky in North Philippines. Not only our primary tourist attractions are being showcased in this caravan, but environmental concerns and advocacy are an essential part of the caravan. We can truly say that north Philippines is an eco-tourism friendly destination," Diaz said.

He said the contestants will leave Wednesday and proceed to Baguio City where the ladies are spearheading a tree planting activity to promote forest management and propagation.

Diaz said this is another major advocacy of the pageant delegates who are also scheduled to participate together with youth organizations, in a symposium conducted by the DENR at the Teachers Camp in Baguio City.

The Miss Earth Pageant was conceptualized by Carousel Production Inc. in 2001 where 42 contestants from around the world launched the first ever beauty pageant with a cause. It is presently ranked the third biggest beauty pageant in the world.

Organizers said the Miss Earth pageant has grown from the original 42 candidates in 2001 to 52 in 2002, growing more with 57 candidates in 2003.

Initially aired over RPN 9 in 2001, it was subsequently aired in 35 countries by Asia's leading cable network STAR World. In 2002, the pageant was telecast in Manila by ABS-CBN, The Filipino Channel and Star World.

The 2004 Ms. Earth Pageant is expected to be aired in more countries like the USA, the Middle East and other key cities in Asia by Star World on November 12, 2004. In Manila, ABS-CBN together with its affiliate station The Filipino Channel (TFC), will air the pageant.

The caravan will proceed to various major cities and municipalities in North Philippines like Laoag City, Sarrat and Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte, Vigan City; San Fernando in La Union; Alaminos, Lingayen, Dagupan City, San Miguel in Pangasinan; Iba and Subic in Zambales and Tarlac City.

"They will be visiting major tourist spots and undertake various activities like clams shell propagation in the Hundred Islands, tree planting at the San Fernando Botanical Gardens, promote Able Iloco fashion through a show in Vigan and many other activities promoting tourist spots in the many provinces and cities they will be visiting," Diaz pointed out.

"With the active participation of the DENR and the DOT, in partnership with the various local government units in North Luzon, the caravan is an opportune event that will promote the Philippines as an Eco-Tourism destination at the least cost to the government, as well as to emphasize the growing need for partnership between the government and the private sector," Diaz stressed.

"The mileage that can be derived from this activity is worth millions of dollars. This caravan is the best evidence of what inter-agency cooperation like the OPNL, DENR and the DOT in synergy with the private sector like Carousel can achieve. The beauties will be invading North Philippines, and the world will be watching," Diaz further stressed.

The "Discover Beauty Go North" caravan is a sequel to the "Go North Caravan for Mother Earth" and the "Go North: the Ocean and Jungle Experience" caravans initiated by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for North Luzon in cooperation with Carousel Production, Inc.

It is also the 8th caravan launched under the Office of the Presidential Assistant for North Luzon.

"This is just our humble way of contributing to Her Excellency the President's program of promoting tourism as a source of employment and advocacy for environmental awareness," Diaz said.

CANDIDATES for the 2004 Miss Earth will tour Baguio Sunday and Monday as part of the caravan to promote environmental awareness and to unveil the beauty of Northern Philippines as a tourist destination.

Linda Fines of the Department of Tourism in the region said the 73 ladies will be spearheading a tree planting activity here to promote forest management, one of the major advocacies of the pageant. They will also participate in a DENR-led symposium with youth organizations at Teacher's Camp.

"They will also be visiting major tourist spots in Baguio City," Fines added.

Aside from Baguio, the Ms. Earth candidates are set to visit other major cities and municipalities in the North including Laoag City; Sarrat and Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte; Vigan City; San Fernando, La Union; Alaminos, Lingayen, Dagupan City and San Manuel, Pangasinan; Iba and Subic, Zambales; and Tarlac City.

Included in the contestants' itinerary is the biking event at Clark, Pampanga, to promote the Clean Air awareness campaign, another of the pageant's major advocacies.

Dubbed as "Discover Beauty, Go North," the caravan is jointly staged by Carousel Production, Inc. and Skoal Advertising Inc. supported by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for North Luzon, DoT and DENR as part of the government's efforts to raise the environmental awareness and promotion of North Philippines as a major tourist destination in Asia.

An ME superpower has emerged, and surprise, surprise, it is not the Philippines. With two first runner-up finishes in the last three years, Brazil is the single strongest force in Miss Earth. The Beauty Brazil organization has been consistent in sending representatives who are not only beautiful and sexy, but can also answer the hell out of any question about the environment. It does not hurt, of course, that the girls from Brazil are always impeccably dressed for any occasion, and can command the ramp as a seasoned pilot would an airport runway.

Priscila Meirelles is no different. This year, she is the one to beat. My favorite for the Miss Brazil-Universe crown, I am happy that Priscila is in the Philippines, bringing with her the irresistible allure of the amazons. Priscila, thus far, has been the most consistent performer of all the delegates.

A close second is Paraguay’s Yanina, who would otherwise be on top, except for two mistakes: she dyed her hair dark blonde, and she made the politically incorrect move of wearing an animal print swimsuit for the Press Presentation! It must be remembered that Miss Earth deals with animal rights and protection, too.

Peru’s Liesel Holler, on the other hand, sports a much tamer look than she did at MU some months back. With much less make-up and with a more subdued projection, Liesel is in a strong position to equal or even surpass the showing of compatriot Claudia Ortiz de Zevallos in 2002.

Another strong favorite is Tahiti’s Stephanie Lesage, who has every right and ability to duplicate Vairupe Huiotu’s strong showing last year. Stephanie’s grace, charm and elegance have been noted by ardent pageant observers.

The pictures speak for themselves. Arwa is every inch an Egyptian princess. The woman obviously knows what she is doing. If this were a modeling competition, she would score aces all throughout. Now, let’s just hope that she has the requisite commitment to Miss Earth’s activities, which will then surely bring her to the endgame.

Supported by a national organization that is considered by many as one of the best in the world, T&T’s Leah Marie Guevara is leading the black girls this year. With her height, svelte figure, runway skills and killer wardrobe (not to mention her always-exciting hairstyles), Leah Marie is poised to leave T&T’s indelible mark on Miss Earth, as well.

With sex appeal coming out of her ears, Miss Bolivia is a familiar face to pageant fans. Muriel has the face of an angel and the body of a temptress. This lady, no doubt, is seasoned by time, exposure and experience. She knows the game in and out. At the very least, she might win a consecutive photogenic award for Bolivia. At best, she might make up for the heartbreak of Claudia Azaeda’s exclusion from last year’s semifinals.

Steaming hot from her Best in Evening Gown win, Thailand’s Radchadawan Nakprasert is the strongest delegate to emerge from this Southeast Asian kingdom in many years. Beautiful, sexy, confident and outgoing, she is a personification of the spirit of Sawasdee.

A big surprise was the petite and sultry beauty from Canada, Tanya Munizaga. Her National Costume presentation (an intricately quilted ensemble that represented Canada’s amazing cultural mosaic) was simply breathtaking. She was sensational during the Press Presentation in a fire engine red two-piece, and even more so in the EG competition, clad in a classic canary column.

Karolina Gorazda has one of the most beautiful faces and one of the sexiest bodies in competition this year. Another strong representative from Poland, Karolina bears a girlish countenance, in contrast to Marta’s vampy stylings. It looks like 2004 is Poland’s banner year, with strong delegates in both ME and MI.

India’s Jyoti, along with Sayali, were my big favorites in FMI this year. It made me endlessly joyful when Sayali was bumped up to compete in MW and Jyoti was given the ME assignment. Jyoti has every means to crack the semifinals. I only wish, though, that she would step up the charm so that she could gain a little bit more media mileage! She is in danger of becoming a wallflower, like Reshmi two years ago! Nevertheless, my hopes are high for Jyoti. She has great skin and is naturally beautiful, even without make-up.

Filipino-Hungarian Tamera Szijarto was only my second choice to represent the Philippines in ME (my big favorite was Filipino-Italian Nadia Camolli), but she is showing that, thus far, she is the country’s best and most deserving delegate to ME. Beautiful, tall, articulate and gracious, she is the perfect hostess. A semifinal slot is almost assured for this hometown girl, and it will be a slot well-deserved.

My other favorites are Nicaragua’s Marifely, Ecuador’s Luisa, and Chile’s Erika, who look like they could be your sister’s best friends. Their unaffected friendliness and sunshiny disposition make them my sentimental favorites.

There are about a dozen other girls who could pull upsets, as well as many others who could pull the kind of where-did-she-come-from?? showing that has come to be expected only from Miss Earth.

In any case, this year’s pageant looks promising, and I will be here to loudly proclaim my views, long as enough time exists for me to write. Hehehe! Cheerio!
