This was actually the second JS book I read after Suffer the Children. I was addicted to the suspense right away. Diana seemed so sweet and docile at first, but was pocessed by the wind. I don't know if it was because she was born during the wind or if her mother beat her during the wind, blaming her for being born. Her mother never wanted her, she had her for her husband who died in the mine right before Diana was born. It was amazing Christie got out alive.
