I couldn't have been more than 13 when I read this one. It was such a sad, terrifying story. I always feel bad for Sarah who got blamed, when she did nothing. I always wondered what caused her to go crazy, was it her father's beating or her sister bringing her to the cave. The ending (at least until the Blackstone Chronicles) left me questioning.

I liked the book but was confused by the ending. Does anyone have an interpretation? I think there are two possible interpretations, one supernatural - that Elizabeth was possessed by the little girl, or non-supernatural, that she was just plain crazy. But who wrote 'Suffer the children to come unto me' in the diary? This is something I believe Jesus said in the bible, but what does it have to do with the story?

That's a tough one. Part of me wants to say the latter, but there was definitely something evil in those woods. Look what it did to the father, for goodness sakes. I felt bad for Sarah. I was hoping that her parents (or at least somebody) would finally get a clue, but unfortunately they didn't. What pissed me off more was that the books ending was so anti-climactic. After I read the last line, I felt that there should be more.

Are you saying that Blackstone helps provide some explanation for Suffer? If so, I'm going to have to find wherever it is in my house and start reading it.
