Samantha was planning on working with Appeal on barrel racing. She knew he had the talent in him, so she had decided to enter him in that class for the next show. She was in one of the big outdoor arenas with no jumps in it. She positioned the barrels in place and got her stopwatch from the lounge to check her timing. She tacked up Appeal quickly, and made sure the cinch was tight. "We've done this a few times before, now we're getting serious boy," Samantha said giving Appeal a pat. She strapped on her helmet and zipped up her chaps. She mounted Appeal and set herself comfortably in the saddle. She led Appeal to the ring. They walked around for the first five minutes. Natalie and Lauren were sitting on the fence watching. "You're gonna go fast Sammy!" Natalie squeaked. Samantha sighed, she hated when her sister called her Sammy. "Yeah, I guess. I have to concentrate," Samantha retorted and cued for Appeal to pick up a jog. Then they picked up a lope (canter) a few times around the ring. Then Samantha steered Appeal to the other end of the ring. She stopped at the fence and gave her mom the stopwatch. "Do this please, mom??" Samantha said, giving Lauren the stopwatch. Samantha got Appeal in line with the barrels. "Ready....set...go!" Lauren yelled. Appeal gave a leap with Samantha's cue and then galloped off towards the first barrel. Appeal leaned way in, and Samantha had to position herself in motion with the horse, but so that she wouldn't fall off. They headed for the other barrels, doing them perfect except for a small stumble on Appeal's part. "Pretty good timing," Lauren said, giving Samantha a thumbs up sign. (I don't know the "good" timerange for barrel racing so I didn't say her time, lol!) Samantha walked Appeal out, and then got off. The next day, hopefully they would work on western pleasure!
