Date Posted: 14:40:52 06/17/02 Mon Susan drove Alli over to Helen's house and Jessica ran out. "I'm so pysched! New horses to ride! Yeah!" Jess called as she ran out. When they reached Rosebush Acres, Alli smiled at the grooms leading sleek horses everywhere. They hopped out of the car and waved bye to Susan. Marissa walked over to greet them. "Hello, I'm Marissa. You guy's can ride together as long as you promise to focus on your riding and not chatting. Alli, I want you on Storm Cloud. Jessica, I want you on Dream Maker." Marissa led them to their horse's stalls, which were side by side. Dream was a grey, practically white mare. Cloud was a dark grey mare with a flaxen mane and tail. They were both Tennessee Walkers and would be ridden saddleseat. Alli grabbed a lead rope and led Cloud out of her roomy box stall. Jess did the same with Dream. After grooming and tacking up, the girls strapped on their helmets and walked out to the arena, leading their mares. Marissa instructed, "Dream and Cloud are angels, but they tend to be a little lazy." Alli mounted first, vaulting off the mounting block. She nudged Cloud gently with her heel and the mare stepped out in a flashy, light gait. Jess squeezed her legs gently and pushed Dream into a prancy elegant gait. After a while, Alli asked Cloud to rack. The mare balked and continued at a slightly faster walk. This time Alli kicked. The mare threw up her head but obediently racked foward. Her gait smooth and flashy. Jess found that Dream would not listen to her squeezes. She flicked her whip on the mare's butt and Dream racked on, fast, almost too fast. Marissa called, "These are Tennessee Walkers, let's see a running walk." At the same intstant, the girls gave the correct signal, and the mares, now awake and ready to go, flew foward in smooth but fast running walk. After this they headed into a rocking chair canter. Marissa called after 40 minutes, "You have other horses to work. Hand these two to the grooms so that they can be cooled out and put away. We have more riding to do. I think that I have two Arabian show jumpers that need worked." HELEN CONTINUE WITH NEXT RIDE ON ARAB SHOW JUMPERS! [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
