Hi Fred -
I'm a descendant of Mary Smallshaw (and I guess you also have a family connection). Mary married Walter Colquhoun in Tasmania around 1830 or a year or two earlier (but not as early as 1819, as far as I know). He was the magistrate's clerk in Evandale, Tasmania, and Mary was a recently-freed convict, transported in 1817 for shoplifting. Alas, (or perhaps not), Walter died about 6 months after their wedding, and Mary then went on to marry the magistrate himself, a rumbustious character and former privateer named Andrew Barclay, originally of Fife.
