Rev Dr James Begg (Senior)'s wife was Mary? Mathie whose parents were shipping merchants in Glasgow. His parents come from Douglas in Lanarkshire but their names are not known to me. He is my ggg grandfather.

The Rev. James Begg, born 31st October 1808, was the son of James Begg, D. D., Minister of New Monkland. He was educated at Glasgow University (M. A. (1842); licensed by the Presbytery of Hamilton 10th June 1829. Joined the Free Church; Minister of Newington Free Church, Edinburgh, 1843; D. D. Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, 1847; Moderator of the Free Church General Assembly 1865. He died 29th September 1883. He married first, 23rd September 1835, Margaret (who d. 30th September 1845), daughter of Alexander Campbell, Sheriff substitute of Renfrewshire, and had issue a son, born 27th August 1846, a daughter born 12th April 1838, died 16th Dec. 1840, a son, born 4th Nov. 1839. (Names of these children were not given in the source - Scottish Ministers of Liberton). Additional children Fanny, born 20th April 1843.
He m. 2nd, 25th Nov. 1846, Maria (d. 15th May 1892), daughter of Ferdinand Faithfull, rector of Headley, Surrey, and had issue: Ferdinand Faithful, born 27th Dec. 1847; William, born 7th Oct. 1849; Charles, born 2nd Oct 1851; Henry, born 11th July 1853, died 26th Sept. 1854; Elizabeth, born 29th Aug. 1857; John, born 26th Jan. 1862; and Frederick, born 20th May 1865, died 4th April 1870.
