Subject: Athya and Durie families

Seeking information on my husband's ancestors.

My mother-in-law immigrated to America circa 1930 as a young child, she remembers living in the Bellshill and Motherwell area before leaving. Her mother, Margaret (Shaw) Athya died prior to her father bringing her to America to live with his sister and her family. She knows nothing of her mother's family on the Shaw side. I assume Margaret (Shaw) Athya was buried in the Motherwell area.

Her father Robert Durie Athya was born about 1888 in Scotland and died in 1949 in Ohio, USA. Robert's parents were James Athya 1849-1913 and Jemima Durie 1851-1924; these dates are not proven, but from family reports.

Other siblings of Robert Durie Athya also came to America for jobs in the steel mills in the early 1900's and very little is known of the family history from Scotland.

Any leads or information would be appreciated as I have run into a brick wall.

Sincerely,
Tricia
