Amelia,
I'm not sure I understand you correctly. Did your teacher just let you put on a pair of pointe shoes that weren't fitted? If she did that is very bad for your feet. Since you are a beginner to pointe you must have properly fitting shoes or else you could cause permanent damage to your feet. When you go to get new pointe shoes make sure that you are going to a reputable dance store with fitters that know what they are doing. Never get pointe shoes that are big enough to "grow in to". I too have very narrow feet and prefer Gaynor Mindens, but you have to make sure they are right for you. Also, when you say that you have large arches do you mean banana feet? Or do you mean that your arches are very strong? Either way you will probably need a strong to extra strong shank so that you don't roll over the shoe (if you have banana feet) or break the shoe very quickly (if you have very strong feet). If you have very strong feet the Gaynor Mindens would be good because you cannot break them. If you could send me some more information I'd be happy to help you even more. HTH!
~Kerry
P.S. Never ever order your first pair of pointe shoes out of a catalogue or online; they must be fitted. If you have any more questions visit my page on pointe shoes, email me or post another message...
