From out of the shadows of a place she had never seen, scented, nor heard of, a dark bay mare walked slowly, cautiously. Like nearly all before her, One for Sorrow had come from the waters, from that little strip of green land that seemed so distant now.
Shaking the dark strands of hair that ran down the back of Sorrow's thick neck, the mare looked around her with eyes of dark liquid. She was no longer on the beach, where she had ended up after her long swim. Now she was in a place where the grass grew juicy and thick, where the trees shaded the area nicely enough for comfort, where a huge, towering hill stood in front of her.
At her own pace, One for Sorrow began up that hill. That monsterous, glorious hill that allowed one to see the heavens themselves! Taking in the beautiful sight for a few more moments, the dark mare closed her eyelids over her dark orbs, and opened them again. This is when she noticed a group of horses below her.
Feeling suddenly cheerful and adventurious, the dark bay whinnied and began down the hill and toward the other horses, glad she had met more like herself.
