What's ironic....is that a relative of person that it's being "assumed" I'm showing bias TOWARD....claimed in a voice mail at my office yesterday that I was showing ANTI-BIAS toward that contestant as well. I didn't say this contestant's name "enthusiastically" enough...I (how they picked this out of the group in the studio, I'll NEVER know) apparently didn't "applaud" enough for this contestant, either. That's from someone who's related to the contestant that you, Brenda, and Linda, perviously have assumed I'm showing bias toward.
My point? Everyone who's "personally vested" in this contest probably feels something like this...but I ask you to please be sensible. I've worked them all, and hope that they all go on the air and knock their song outta the park. I don't have personal friendships with any of them, and yet I have no axes to grind with any of them, either. Why would it matter, to me, who won? It doesn't. So think about it, between you and I, who has the "personal" interest?
As for Brenda's inane insults...water off a duck's back, honey...water off a duck's back. I think you'd be surprised to know how much 'negative' feedback from listeners I keep OFF the air towards these contestants. But you wouldn't know that...because I DO keep it off the air.
And may I remind Brenda and Linda, again, there are TWO Avoyelles Parish contestants. Two.
Karen, I, too, think that in both Monday AND Tuesday's semifinal rounds, more than one person performed "well." That's why, thankfully, there's a "wild card" slot to fill. It's the ONLY slot that we get to fill based on OUR reaction to the performances.
It's still my opinion, though, that Rodney stood out on Monday...and Jacey stood out on Tuesday. My opinion had no bearing on the results, nor will they. For the record, my notes on Cenla Idol each day are posted AFTER the voting is complete.
Guys, just enjoy the efforts these young people are making...SUPPORT your loved one if they're competing, be SUPPORTIVE if they win, and be SUPPORTIVE if they don't. Be SUPPORTIVE if they have "what it takes," and be SUPPORTIVE if they don't. Heck, my sister would've loved to have been a cheerleader and baton twirler in high school...but the fact was, mother nature didn't grace her with the physique back then to make it happen. The same goes for those with and without singing ability.
"Idol" is about finding the ONE person in Cenla - above all others - who has what it takes to sing well NOW. I think if you listened to each day's performances up to date, it'd be hard to argue with the results thus far. You could make an argument for a few others' abilities to sing, and that's why the "wild card" slot is there. But this contest is not, nor will nor ever, be a contest about who's most popular in their community or parish, nor a litmus test to find out just who's "best looking."
May the best contestant win!
Best,
Ron
