Lizzy, Megan...
Lemme go over this again..
Request the song, first of all, and if the "demand" were there, I could at least CONSIDER risking the station's integrity to play it. Again, looking at request logs that our DJs turn in, there aren't exactly MASS NUMBERS of R.Kelly requests.
"Seven and the Sun" peaked at #15 on the TOP 40 chart back in the summer of 2002. "Top 40."
And again, the JFJ Band has developed a good local following. They GET requested, much like Bowling For Soup did BEFORE they hit the Top 40 charts.
Trust me, if we played everything I wanted to play, and pulled all the stuff i didn't like that we DO play, you'd hear a lot more Chris Isaak, more dance music, more obscure '80s and early '90s retro, and less hip-hop. But you don't see us doing that, do you? Chill out...we're playin' what you like to hear, by and large, and not taking credibility risks with some artists where we have no reason (as shown in our request logs) to believe there's a desire to have them heard here.
We're one of the FEW top 40 stations even left in the U.S. that actually tracks requests for research purposes. It's why we were WAY out in front of the country on Bowling For Soup, and Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, too.
We're not perfect, but we're doing our best to go by what you tell us, and making judgement calls on others.
Best,
