The Mighty Q-Ballers :-) finished with a 6-8 record. Jen & I enjoyed coaching the kids IMMENSELY!!!! The drawbacks (and there were very few) were the (very) few parents we had who had no concept of the word "volunteer" when it came to their treatment of their "volunteer" coaches.

Fortunately, the good and supportive parents outnumbered the more vocal gripers. I can't speak for Jen, but it seemed to me that the irony came from the fact that the small "group" of complainers were some of our single moms. Not that I'm saying single women are complainers...but I can't begin to imagine why these lovely-yet-loudly outspoken and tactless ladies could POSSIBLY be single. :-)

Despite that, ALL of the children were wonderful. Jen & I loved them all as if they wre nephews (and Kelli - our niece)!!!

Would we coach at that age again? That remains to be seen. Unfortunately, the hassle we got from the few really wore on us after awhile. For me, it's a matter of being more involved in the draft process before the season - by setting ground rules with the parents beforehand. We had too many "coaches" behind the fences and int he bleachers distracting our precious little players, and it confused the daylights out of them. Of course, we got blamed by our small contingent for that, too...lol... Anyhow, I'd probably let it be known more fervently from day one that there would be two roles...1. parents and family 2. coaches... and that I had no interest in being a parent or family member, and I'd ask upfront if they wanted to assist in coaching that they volunteer their time equally or let the coaches do the coaching.

Needless to say, it was a "learning" experience for Jen & I...and I think we did well under the circumstances. The BEST team we played - Brake Specialties - gave us a terrific pat on the back for the improvement they saw in our little band of t-ballers from having faced us before in a pre-season tournament.

We enjoyed ourselves, overall...and miss the kids BIG TIME. :) This was my 7th year, so I'll be coaching again.

Best,
Ron
