To the mom who is buying cd's for her child:
Try cheapcds.com. They typically have the best prices, especially on a new release.I would be surprised if they had anything over $11-$12.

Nick, Ron and Jen, you all three have a good understanding of what downloading is doing to everyone in the music industry. It is rampant in the film industry as well. Sharing film and music via digital piracy has the potential to kill what culture we have in this country. It is even hurting sales of books, as they are easily scanned and digitized and distributed.

We have kicked around the idea of releasing our upcoming cd's for all our artists at an MSRP of $10, but unfortunately there are two problems with this.
The first problem, explained to me by my distributor and local retailers, is that if you price a cd at $10 the typical music buyer thinks it must be an inferior product. Most music buyers consider themselves "Connoisseurs" and will not buy what they perceive as a potential inferior product. I dont know if that is really true, but the retailers think it is true.
The other problem is that no matter where I set the MSRP on a cd, the retailers can price it as high as they want. I have been in stores and seen my own artists cd's for sale at $2-$3 higher than the MSRP I set.
Another indie label (cant remember which one) did send a press release today stating that all of their future releases would be at $10 or less. Who knows, they may be trend setters.
Thanks to all those music fans who do still buy cd's. For now, it is those people who are the glue holding the industry together until the piracy ends.
To the mom who started this thread.
Send me an email with your name and I will send Ron copies of each of our current releases and I am sure he can have them available at the station for you to pick up. (sorry to volunteer you like that Ron, hope you dont mind, but I am thinking you can verify who she is at the station).
