BCR AOL Alumni Board

BCR AOL Alumni Board

Welcome to the BCR AOL Alumni Board! This board is for BCR fans who originally met through the now defunct AOL BCR board to reconnect and keep in touch. Visitors and newcomers to the BCR online world are welcome as well. Not necessarily a place for BCR news, just a place for friends and online fans to connect, particularly those who remember the days of the AOL BCR Board, iMusic chats, Tartan Heaven and the very first Rollerfests!

Hey how many Mass chicks frequent this board? I'm gonna be out your way in a couple of weeks and would love to see some of ya's! How does the afternoon/early evening of Sunday 9/22 look? I'll likely be meandering somewhere between Warner, NH and Norwood, MA that day, so I'm flexible as to location as long as I make it to Norwood at a decent hour that evening! Meet up for pizza or something casual? Lemme know!

I just wanted to wish everyone Happy Bay City Roller day. : ) Even before there was AOL or the internet, every August 24th, I thought about the day the Rollers went to Bay City and got the key to the city in 1977. I guess it's the 25th anniversary too!!!

So Keep On Rollin' babies!!!

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with BCR, but I had to tell someone.

My husband was nominated for a national award (unbeknownst to him) by his company, and he has just been told he won it!! To accept the award we have to go to New Zealand next weekend (Aug 24-26) all expenses paid!!!

I am so proud of him, and so excited about the trip.

I know there are a few NZ fans out there, anyone near Taupo? Can you tell me what the weather/shopping/scenery is like.

Okay, this has the teeniest, tiniest BCR thread to it:

We were on our way home from lovely NC a couple weeks ago (ahhh, mountains, waterfalls, hiking...gotta love it), and when passing thru ohio I see a sign for a town by the name of "Kettering". It sparked a BCR memory for me.

Anyone remember a gal (name escapes me) who was in ALL the fanbooks back in our youth from Kettering, OH? She used to run some sort of fanclub for a band called "Riva" which had SOME type of Roller connection. But WHAT was it?? I have completely forgotten. Who was Riva, and how are they connected to the BCR?

Anyone else remember this young lady, or the band?

Just wondering.

Connie I visited your links and you've done a fab job. Course I think permission for approval to posting some pics should have been forthcoming, but you'll be forgiven this time!! I have pics from our little pah-tay "Rollin" that I can send you so you can add them in if you'd like! Course most of the pics will be of the stripper we hired, but if you can't get a Roller to attend your event might as well hire someone attractive and in shape with a propensity to take his clothes off! Sounds like a win-win bit to me!

I read your intro and was reminded of the days we had to pay for AOHell. Remember you'd get only so many hours and then we had to pay some obscene amount per hour after going over? Course everyone would go over just chatting and reading the AOL board. Then the AOL chat rooms had to be created privately due to some loony bin. Here's a question for you all that I think Connie can't be allowed to answer..Can you name the private room names that were created for chat?? (Connie can't answer as I think she created some!!)

Subject: NEW Online BCR Fan Database

Author:
Connie
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 20:55:46 08/04/02 Sun

Dear Roller Fans:

It's been far too long since the BCR Fan Database was last updated.....lots of unexpected changes in my life has left me with little time to spare for time-consuming side projects for the better part of a year. However, now that things have calmed down a bit, and have acquired some (very basic) HTML skills, I've decided it's time for a new on-line version of the BCR Fan Database. In the interests of privacy, the online version of the database will ONLY feature names, e-mail address, and city/state/country information, so that people can find and locate old friends and pen-pals as well as make new friends in their home area.

If you have not received an e-mail from me in the past couple of weeks regarding the database, then either you were not listed on the last edition of the database, OR I do not have your current e-mail address. Therefore, if you would like to be included on the database, please send me the following:

Name: (including maiden name)
E-mail address you prefer to have listed:
City and/or State you live in:
Country:
Other:* (Optional)

*This is a category for random notes, such as if you want to find other Roller pals from a particular group such as "Rollerloonies", if you have your own BCR-related website or message board to invite folks to, or if you want to list your special "pen pal" nickname that you were known by back in the 70's. Please limit the information in this column to as few words as possible, as the information will be set up in a table format.

Thanks for your patience during this long stretch between updates! Though lately I have found the majority of my time being occupied with "life" rather than fandom, the friendships I made because of the BCR are something I will always cherish. And although our busy lives often take us in opposite directions, I don't want to lose touch with these special friends and I'm sure others feel the same. The database is my way of hopefully helping people who found each other through the BCR to keep in touch. I hope it helps you keep up with old friends as well as find some new ones.

Well Cat, glad ya asked...I have a question to pose to y'all. See, we were originally thinking of doing it April 4-6 because Easter is on April 20th. Which means the weekend after April 4-6 (which is April 11-13...are you following this?) is the beginning of Easter Week, for those with kiddies who have the week before Easter off from school!

Now, we've run into some potential attendee conflicts with the weekend of April 4-6. So....my question is this. Does the fact that April 11-13 is the beginning of Easter week make it a *good* weekend, or a *bad* weekend for folks? Good in that it's easier to bring the family and make it a longer vacation for all, or bad in that you'll have to rush home after the weekend to watch the kids? Or do you really not care either way because a) you don't have kids or b) you would only stay the weekend either way?

My main concern with April 11-13 is that (being the start of Easter week) it would probably mean more crowds, and possibly higher prices for hotel rooms. Then again, every weekend in April is part of Spring Break for SOME school or another (seems the colleges all do Spring Breaks different weeks now) so maybe it really doesn't matter one way or another!

Considering all of the above, which is a better weekend for most? April 4-6 or April 11-13? Lemme know your thoughts!

Oh, and I should let you know that at the moment the preferred location is the Sheraton Universal...which is not only part of Universal Studios and the Universal CityWalk shopping mall, but has a bit of Roller history as the lads actually stayed there! Which makes it a good "first stop" on our planned tour of famous L.A. Roller-related sites! :o)

Now, if someone can just tell me where Sharon has gotten off to...no fair dragging me into this and disappearing, woman!!!! Your butt's gonna be right here in the hot seat with mine!! LOL!

Any "must do's" around there?? It does not even have to be Roller related. I have been told the mural is long gone and nothing remains of the Rollers to see. I just got back from Ohio & my hardrive had gone out so I lost all my email addys. So BETSY could you please resend your addy?
LAURA: yes I remember you! Don't worry about the SAL pics I am trying not to be a packrat anymore. OK the R&R HOF was totally cool! From the early stuff like Little Willie John down to Green Day it was great. I loved seeing some of the B-52s outfits, Jon Bon Jovi's long leather coat from the NJ tour, his school ID card, the whole John Lennon exhibit was really good. Yoko loaned them tons of stuff. Johns Rickenbacher, their church pew bed, his Sgt. Pepper jacket, his leather jacket he wore in Hamburg, too much stuff to list. But they only had 2 BCR things: Erics roller gear from 75, the white pants & jacket w/ the red tartan trim. W/ the "E" on the front pocket & "Eric" on the back & his platform shoes. Then they had a 16 mag w/ the original group standing in front of a ladder w/Eric holding an orange tabby cat. They have a big gift shop w/ so many diff. style shirts it was hard to choose. Courtney got a set of black drum sticks w/ the HOF stamped on them in silver. Oh & her hair is green & blue now. Anyway if you are w/in driving distance I would recommend going to the HOF & checking it out. ESP. if you are really into music history, its a must see. I plan on going again next year b/c the exhibits are always changing.
Boy its weird seeing all these names from when I first got online, "Hi" to all of you!

hey mary, thanks for the idea! i have so many favorite memories from different fests, where do i start? well, my first fest was Fest West at colleen's in jan 98. it was awesome to meet the BAGs and we always have a good time at the bay area gatherings, the time sharon came all the way from toronto and we went dancing at polly esthers was a blast. SAL was my first big fest and the whole weekend was just fantastic. i just remember all of us hanging out in the bar, i remember shooting pool with lori s while watching woody on tv, meeting all the HOs for the first time and of course seeing woody and duncan play together was so cool...the vibe at that fest was special and stayed with me for awhile. edinburgh fest was so great, its such a beautiful city and i really loved the ghost tour we took, a tartan ghost jumped out at us! and at liverpool fest by far my most favorite memory is of taking pictures with kitten's digital of zoe (dont kill me zoe but you are hilarious) in a shall we say compromising position with a certain carved wooden leprechaun in the bar of the hotel. of course others saw and bedlam ensued...i nearly wet myself. i knew when i saw that statue the night before that it was trouble, hahaha. we are a raucous bunch, arent we? and as always major kudos to the hard-working fest crews who make all this debauchery possible :) miss hanging with everyone. wish i could see duncan in virgina, his shows are always so good, rollerblast sounds like its gonna be, well, a blast so cheers to everyone attending! whens the tentative date for that california fest connie?

Happy 4th all!

Since Connie's been kind enough to post photo memories of the various fests over the years, Just curious what everyone's favorite fest memories are. Not necessary your favorite gathering, per se, as I'm sure that would be hard for some.

For instance I have snippets of memories from various gatherings that can still bring a smile no matter what.

Bay City fest: seeing others "like me" for the first time and just being totally overwhelmed by it.

Les' Show in 96 (I think?) in Shaumburg, ILL (tho not a "fest" - actually)what fun that whole thing was! Great show overall, and cramming I don't know HOW many of us in one hotel room.

Vegas: Ha! Coming home on the flight from hell w/ Cathy and Becky (tho NOT a good experience at the time!) And although totally UN-bcr related, the Sammy Hagar concert *right* before we were due to leave.

New Orleans: The show at Tipitina's (spelling??)was so cool, and the night a group of us all went out together on the town just walking club to club. Just plain old fun.

Anyone else?

Soooo great to find a site, with so many fans who remember the Rollers when they were at the height of their popularity. Never was a closet fan... was proud to say I liked their music, simple and fun. An 'innocent' time. My fingers practically numb from trying to get thru to radio station contests to "meet them in Toronto", and actually getting to meet them a couple of years later in Philly. Ahhh youth!! Looking to talk with anyone who went to Shang A Lang in Toronto a couple of years ago... also any RollerLoonie fans, and Canadian fans too. Would love to find out where there are any upcoming Fan Fests. Used to go by the moniker "Woody's Woman". Love this site!!!
Sincerely,
June

I wasn't an AOLer either, but was around at the same time. IMusic, TartanHeaven (anyone hear from Cassie??), Connie's fan database, the gutter slides, the trout......what great memories. I was even part of a recipe ring with some of you, lol.

Great to see you all, Connie you are an amazing woman (again) to think of this.

I can't believe there are new babies around, congrats to all and good luck. I can also relate to the 'I the centre of the universe' 15 year olds.

I'll bookmark this board and come back often to catch up.

Hi everyone! Has it really been 5 years since I first moved from Bay City Roller searches to actually dubbing myself Weezy & venturing into the world of Tartan Heaven? Seems impossible and so much has happened since. I remember at that time trying to unsuccessfully cajole a friend of mine into going to Absolute Rollerfest in Vegas in '97. It was not to be so I was content to get to know new peeps through chat & it has been mindblowing seeing so many familiar posters on this new board.

One just never knows the ramifications of such a simple action as becoming a Roller fan at 7 & how it can impact your life in the long term. I have travelled more in the last few years & met more wonderful people from all over the world who I am proud to call my friends. I have shared more laughter, tears & insanity than I ever thought possible with you gang. Hell, I even now work for Sharon who I met in TH and I spent this past weekend with LoriC at her farm. How cool is that?

As everyone is giving life updates, here is mine in a nutshell-- quit my government job of 13 years, moved to Toronto, divorced my husband in February and lost my cats & microwave in the process, started working for Bullseye Records of Canada, enjoying the single life, lots of travel and that's about the extent of the highlights. Life has had its challenges in the last few years but I am feeling better than ever for having gone through it. I have a greater sense of who I am which I think is half the battle in this day & age.

So, California in 2003-- sounds kewl to me. Bring on the tartan & stay away VH1... this is our party.

Okay, what am I going to write that hasn't already been said, and that doesn't sound too hokey. (Taps forehead, looking for inspiration. Nothing. Hits forehead harder. Still nothing. Knocks head against keyboard. OW! Headache! LOL!!) Nothing original is coming to mind, so I guess that I will just ramble for a couple of minutes. :-)
I have been reading the board all week, and thinking about posting, but decided to go ahead and actually do it.
First off, Hello to everyone! :-) It's been a looong time, hasn't it? Bear, Kerry, ~Mary, Nessa, and everybody else. I have missed the AOL Chats that we used to have. It took me so long to try and figure out how to keep up with everyone, but I finally did it, I think. (Unlike our 4 hour IM sesssions, because we didn't know how to get into a private chatroom, aye Baca? LOL!!)
What have I been up to? About 5'7", last time I checked. LOL!! Seriously, for those of you who do not know, I am living in Ohio now, and have been for a little over three years. I work for a Saturn dealer, and I love my life out here.
Still single, but that doesn't mean that I don't look. >-)
Have kind of let the BCR stuff go, but there are still times when I get the "twinge", and peek out, and see what is going on. Right now, my big obcession is NASCAR.
Now that I have bored everyone silly, I think that I will climb back under the rock. But you never know, I may peek out again soon. Be afwaid! Be vewy afwaid! (-:

OK, the pop-ups caused by the chat room link were driving me (and apparently a few others) crazy, so I removed the chat room from this page and created a new homepage for BCR Alumni Fans which includes the chatroom as well as links to this message board, photo pages, and a ton of other links as well (I'm amazed at how many are still out there!) I'm sure I didn't get them all, so feel free to let me know what I'm missing and I'll add 'em!

You can now access all of the above via http://members.aol.com/cojehali/bcralumni.html. (I'd make that into a link if I knew how!)

What I want to know is how the heck I found myself actually making a *bleep*ing BCR Fan page at this late stage in the game after resisting it for so many years...LOL. Oh well, I hope y'all enjoy it! 'Tis nothing fancy, really, just a central "gateway" for us oldtimers to access the key sites and --if desired-- explore the online BCR landscape as it exists today!

Pop by and add me to your bookmarks! :o)

Well...well...well....look what one of ~M's many kitties dragged in......ME!!! HEY ALL!!!!!!! OMG...I mean....HI EVERYONE!!!!!! This is soooo hilarious seeing all this activity again!!! The funniest thing is...I was just thinking about many of you recently....I cannot even mention everyone I want to....but hugs 'n' smooches to you all....you know who you are....everyone!!! OK.....life's updates....well....Jim and I celebrated the big 2-0 in April (there is a golden throne waiting for him in Heaven after having survived that long avec moi).....Miss Em just turned 15 and has a JOB!!!! NOt a paper route...not babysitting....a real, true life, honest-to-goodness job that gives her a real, true life, honest-to-goodness check!! Gone seem to be the days of the hourly mother/daughter wrestling matches and here now is a time of friendship. We do a lot together (mostly shop and go to concerts. I just love my....I mean HER boy-bands) and I even think she likes me! woohooo!! And my baby....Nick...just turned teenager on me...he's getting SO tall...almost as tall as Mom (5'8") and he's going thru the Peter Brady stage with the voice. I *LOVE* it!!! But...I want my babies back....well...sometimes. Life in general becomes more and more hectic the older the kids get, but it's fun and I wouldn't trade it for anything. So......that's life in a nutshell with me......

Caiti! Brent! Becky! Connie! ~Mary! Whoa isn't this bizarre? So glad to see the old names and boy that photo really does make everyone look very young. Great news from most of you too.

Just returned from LesFest, great time. Tons of newbies...it's been so long I can't even figure out how to get into a chatroom anymore. Life sometimes gets in the way doesn't it? Claudia and I were looking at photos from the Chicago shows this weekend - what a great time.

What's new? I resigned from the University and am taking a sabbatical of sorts - I was there for 13 yrs. That's too long to be anywhere! LOL After attending college I started working there. I just needed a freaking break so I'm spending time...lying in the sun and doing collie rescue. Oh - does anyone remember Paul (he was in Vegas) - he was in Atlanta too! We have a new house now, I'm still hanging in a convertible. Only sadness is that my collie - Sabaca - passed away this year. Totally devasting..of course I do have a 6 month collie now too so that brings me up to 3 85 lb. dogs...
Ciao for now
Suzanne

It is so nice to hear from all the old familiar names. I can still remember being one of the first people to get on-line at work in 1995 and I'd key in Bay City Rollers all the time and get nothing. Then, suddenly one day (I think in 1996), there was something and now look at us!! As most of you remember, I was pregnant in Bay City with Paige. She is now 5 and will be in kindergarten in September. I had another baby (Nicholas) in April, 2000 so he is now 2.

Sabaca, Denise and I just got back from Atlanta last night and it was GREAT to see Les again. He and the band did great and they were so nice to everyone. They were all out at the lobby bar on Friday night so it was fun to hang out with everyone then the concert on Saturday night was great and they all made sure everyone got autographs and pictures. I don't think that session even wrapped up until 1:30am then everyone was back to the bar until the wee hours of the morning!! Thanks again for this board Connie!! ts so nice to know everyone really IS still out there. Keep writing everyone! Suzy :)
