Subject: Trouble on the road to Emokan (Al'Thaes)

ockingly, Ophan jumps up and presents his half-giant companion with a military salute.
"Sir, yes sir!" he bellows, "Troop, forward march! One-Two-One-Two."
In a rather fitting parody of a soldier marching in line, Ophan marches forward alongside Al'Thaes.
The last sound of hooves on stone stopped after having become weaker and weaker.

The two walk on in a slow but steady pace for a little under an hour when they round another bend in the road, the so manieth. For some reason it looks as if the people that made this road couldn't or wouldn't build a road in a straight line. The locations of the bends seem to be randomly, and not very logically chosen, Al'Thaes muses to himself as the two walk through it, temporarily leaving the forest they'd been traveling through.
The scene the two men come across makes Al'Thaes smirk as he thinks to himself how right his previous thought was. There is a large, open pasture of grass, virtually free of any other vegetation. The road makes a strange u-turn halfway through the pasture to end up heading into the forest again at the other side of the clearing directly opposite to where Al'Thaes and Ophan are standing now, making the distance they have to travel to reach the other side of the clearing, if they'd follow the road, just about twice as long as it would neccisarily have to be.
Suddenly Ophan interrupts Al'Thaes meanderings.
"Look over there," he says in a neutral tone of voice with a tense undertone.
"Where?" the tall half giant asks.
"Over there," Ophan replies, pointing towards the U-turn in the road ahead, "Crowes."
The turn is still a good half mile away, but now that his attention is brougth to it, Al'Thaes can see the birds as well.
"So?" Al'Thaes asks, not quite getting it yet.
"Crowes," Ophan repeats himself soberly, "They always go where death goes. Let's proceed with caution."
The two cautiously approach the turn in the road. As they approach, they can see a toppled over wagon, around which a small swarm of crowes has gathered already.
In the middle of the road stands a young brown haired girl with freckles. She's holding a baby doll in one hand. Her arms hang beside her body motionlessly and her gaze is fixed on some point in the distance, right behind the two strangers. She doesn't even blink as the two men walk up to her, she simply continues staring in the distance vacantly.
