That's very cool to hear. So a stay in Manhattan would make the most sense.
But, since we'd likely drive to NYC (not sure yet, but as I say we'd have to coordinate it with a trip to Ottawa/Montreal), would it make sense to stay in a smaller town north of the city (or even Connecticut) and commute to the city each day by train, like some working people do? It sounds like it would cost a fortune to stay in NYC itself. We might be bringing a tent too, to save on costs travelling. I don't suppose we could pitch it in Central Park. ;-)

So the subway in Manhattan would work fine in the evening? I'm thinking that we should probably postpone this trip or bring along someone to watch the kids so we can see some of the nightlife. It's hard, because I am not the sort of person who wants to go to Disneyland--all my dream trips are pretty unfriendly for children (and parents).
What is your opinion on going to NYC with what will then be a 7 yo and a 3.5 yo (omilord I can't believe it)? Pointless? Crazy? Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think that my goals will just not mesh with theirs. Hm...
Is there a museum that has the history of NYC in it? I have fallen in love with Edith Wharton's New York (who wouldn't?) and I'd love to see what the city looked like in 1900.

Ugh. Well, that's capitalism for you, huh? I'm sure that for more than one person it wasn't, "omigod they flew a plane into the WTC" it was, "there's a dollar to be made here somewhere". :-)
I don't have any great urge to see the site itself. I am sad that I won't get to see the buildings themselves--that would have been something. But I don't identify with the urge to visit the place now.

Not more info than I wanted at all!! I am happy to get a good feel for where the attractions are and where it's safest to be.

Yes, I am registered. But we have a fondness for perusing the newspaper on the weekend. Reading online just isn't the same somehow. Plus I get neck strain. ;-)
And on the subject of NY

Thanks!
