That is the title of a recent NY Times article. Here is the text:

Now, I happen to support mothers working if they need OR want to; I believe in the happy mother/happy baby theory. But are there effects to working outside the home(which may of course be countered)? And what do we do about it -- push for longer maternity leave (so important for so many reasons)?

And for those interested on the effects of daycare, here's an old (and thus possibly out-of-date) article published by The American Enterprise, the publication of the American Enterprise Institute. Disclosure: the AEI is a rightish think tank, but not really out there. But note that Penelope Leach, who's not by any means considered a reactionary or even conservative parenting expert, seems to agree with the article's thesis. It's long, but interesting:
