Did you see the 20/20 where Tatum O'Neal says that McEnroe beat their kid for taking his pot? I also saw one of those HBO freak of the week "documentaries" about a 30-something dad of teens who left his wife and did extasy with his teenagers. It was one of the most sickening things I ever saw.

I'm really not a rabid anti-drug person, well, not anti-pot for adults(even though it's been quite some time ;-) But that doesn't mean I'm going to let my kid get stoned.

Well, the cops would be entering my home without a warrant -- I'd be the one going to jail if they found drugs, weapons or whatever. Schools are government property. I expect to have my purse examined when entering, say, a court house or other gov't facility.

I didn't go to a public school, so the alternative to not allowing your locker to be searched was to get kicked out. Fear of expulsion kept us from doing even more stupid shit than we were already getting away with, it really wasn't a bad thing. In fact, that is the main thing that concerns me about sending my kid to public school, that the troublemakers can't get kicked out.
