But the tests are random, therefore a student wouldn't know when *not* to go to school. And if a kid starts skipping school on a regular basis, hoping to avoid drug testing, then the parent is keyed into the fact that something is wrong. And then they can *help* the child.

Just because you think drugs should be legal doesn't mean everyone thinks that. If my kids have drug-related problems in school, I'd like to be aware of it. Hopefully I'd know before it came down to drug testing, but if not, I'd sure like the opportunity to deal with it before it got completely out of hand. Unlike you, it is not ok for my kids to experiment in illegal drugs, if I can help it.
