They do do it for adults too. I was at Disneyland in May and they checked my purse, diaper bag and stroller every single time we entered the park. They also checked me at Universal studios. Border guards and customs officials randomly search people entering and leaving the country. If I go to a concert, they check me at the door for weapons, cameras, booze and drugs. My dh got drug tested at his job when he was hired. My best friend got drug tested at her job (and *failed* for opiates because she ate poppyseed bagels at the cafeteria every day before work). I think that you have to weigh the benefits for the public good. I don't mind being searched at Disneyland because it makes me feel safer knowing everyone else is too. I wouldn't care unless I was the "bad guy". I don't mind being searched at customs because it protects the country from people like Ahmed Ressam. I understand the drug testing as a condition for employment, but it makes me more uncomfortable--especially knowing that someone who never would even smoke pot or do acid with me growing up could test positive for heroin because of a bagel. As a parent I don't mind random drug testing in schools so much, but as a student I would have been livid. I guess I'm not entirely sure of where I'd stand on that issue. It's on gov't property, may protect the student body in some way. But it is pretty invasive. More so than searching a locker or backpack. Which I think I'm totally fine with, btw.

But then I'm from Canada. We think intrinsically different from many Americans on issues of constitutional rights. Like Gun Control. We generally don't mind having our rights mildly infringed for the greater good here. In fact lots of us encourage it:-).

>Ack! Why don't you have a problem with random locker
>or backpack searches? Do you believe constitutional
>rights are only for those over eighteen, or do you
>think those rights should be suspended for adults too?
