A few speculations:

1. Bush will say, "Too little, too late," or "not good enough," or "It's a ploy" and motor on towards invasion.

2. Bush will say (and will be correct) that whatever the inspectors are shown is not the whole story, and that Saddam is hiding key facilities or otherwise duping the inspectors.

Astrid, I'm sorry but I couldn't get Safire links -- the NYT makes you pay for Safire's back columns. The short version is that he thought the CIA denied the link because they weren't ready yet to take on Hussein and had an unnamed source who said they were still checking it out. Not super-strong, but Safire has a lot of contacts, so it makes me wonder. Also, your reply to the Chretien comments was well-put.
