Subject: TV provides escape from our daily lives

Everybody needs some form of a release from our daily lives. It is very important because who can focus on our work lives all day long, no one. People need to shut off their brain in order to recupurate from the exhuasting daily activities. TV has become a very accessible substitute for people to relax and turn off their brain. I am a student myself, and after a hard day at school of listing to the instructors' lectures, tests, reading course material, my brain is demanding to be shut off immediatly. The perfect way to do that is to watch an episode of Seinfeld, Family Guy, etc. But I know how counter productive watching endless hours of television programs is. It is difficult for me to see other activities that I could replace TV where it doesn't require a great deal of thinking. Taking my dog for a walk has been a good way of relaxing but that is not always an option because the weather could be not suitable. So I guess my point is that everyone needs to do some brainless activity after a hard days work because the brain can not continue to be active the entire day, and TV has become a very dominant part in people's lives that provides that service, but it is very unhealthy and unproductive medium, so I am looking for other suggestions.

PS To respond to the article on television in Japan, it is no wonder why they have such an endless amount of TV viewership there, because there culture demands so much intellectual input into their work activities, that they crave some form of escape from over using their brains.
