Subject: lies, libraries and bananas
In reply to: Fred 's message, "Re: genetic engineering - the banana" on 23:58:55 08/23/03 Sat

lots of things that are in libraries are horribly out of date. look at the methods the world accepts as the sure fire only way to lose weight... all of a sudden everything we used to know for sure is being shot down by the harvard school of public health who is planning to take on the food & drug administration's food pyramid; and the calorie isn't the important measure now, nor simple or complex carbs, it's the glycemic index. so far nothing has changed the face (or i should say the "size") of the culture.

"sterile offspring" should be a ringing alarm, if you ask me. it wasn't supposed to reproduce because it isn't right. we can't know for sure that bananas will or won't be wiped out, but we do know, beyond the shadow of a doubt that lots of people, who are in the know about farming, are really concerned about the potentially devastating effects of genetically manufactured products. i'm much too untrusting. i think we should watch these things like a hawk. do you remember thalidomide and agent orange?

oh i believe the scientists have the best intentions. feed and clothe the people, so they can use their time and energy to make the world a better place and all that... but those who created the bomb thought they were doing it for peace, too. (please excuse my crassness, but i once heard it said that "fighting for peace, is like f- - - king for virginity.") the mistake scientists make is in assuming that the rest of the world will really have selfless and noble motivations, and will strive with all their might to protect itself.

welcome fred-with-the-diverse-perception.

"but what is truth?
is truth unchanging law
we both have truths
are mine the same as yours?"
