Subject: 昇陽的短語大師

近日昇陽電腦(Sun Microsystems)創辦人、董事長暨執行長麥克里尼(Scott Mcnealy)受邀來台參加全球電子商務高峰論壇。他是一個辯才無礙的演說家，擅長以簡潔生動的形容描繪科技，也因此贏得「短語大師」(Master of catchphrases)之名，他的妙語如珠，有如拉斯維加斯的夜總會脫口秀主持人，贏得台下掌聲與笑聲不絕於耳，他的演說內容並非老少皆宜，聽眾可得有電腦科技相關背景，熟知近年來資訊科技業界的脈動，才不致於如同鴨子聽雷一般無動於衷。
麥克里尼修理起世界首富微軟董事長比爾蓋茲時顯得有點尖酸刻薄，但是對其他公司其實也差不多「直人直語」。例如他諷刺惠普公司是「全世界最好的印表機廠商」;說IBM是「藉曖昧不明的身份來確保地位之安全」；形容微軟與英特爾是「將軍與馬達」(General and Motors)，(是將通用汽車General Motors一詞分開)，暗喻比爾蓋茲與英特爾生產的微處理器。
而去年十一月在拉斯維加斯電腦展的演講中，對微軟即將推出的千禧年重要大作視窗兩千(Windows 2000)，他更毫不客氣的批評：「W2K是個比Y2K更大的災難。」，馬路上的大型看板、宣傳單上都有他力倡的「讓軟體免費」(Let software be free)主張，顯然要讓微軟好看。麥克里尼表示，未來網路有四大方向有龐大機會，一是訊息與出版，二是電子商務，三是網路語音(VoIP)，四是娛樂，如寬頻與隨選視訊等。網路是大餅，有大的機會，而這與視窗無關。PC會繼續存在，但作業系統會免費，昇陽也提供免費的辦公室軟體StarOffice。
有媒體記者問及他認不認為微軟是不是「邪惡帝國」，他出人意表的說，批評微軟只是因為有趣，甚至是戲劇，他並不恨微軟，大家工作都很辛苦，不用太嚴肅，昇陽就希望員工有fun。不過他再話鋒一轉表示，不過funny的原因也是因為他所批評的都是事實，他指出微軟的策略的確錯誤，大家也須有微軟以外的選擇。
