I say the Rocky Mountain Horse is the best breed for trails.
They: are intelligent, are calm so they almost never spook, are willing, have stamina so you can go for a long trail ride, are sure footed, and they are gaited so you have a nice smooth ride and dont wake up sore the next morning!
And ive seen some of them jump really high and far.
