Subject: Help with bitting

Having always used d or eggbut snaffles, I am unsure about changing. Can anyone help?
I have a 5 year old mare who can be ridden bridless in the arena, but does sometimes pull out on trail rides or puts her head up (do not really want to use a martingale)
The other mare is 8, and although light in the mouth, would prefer to go everywhere as fast as possible.
I have loads of bits I can borrow including Myler loose ring and comfort snaffle, billy allen & shanked bits both medium port and snaffle. Am hoping to show this year, so the 8 year old will have to have a shank bit.
