Subject: Freedom part 2, (Done all for the ratings)



(She’d probably missed her morning call by now, Mr. On time Bellhop had arrived at 8:00 like he promised, knocking gently at her door, Joy was a total mess after falling asleep with Barry’s finished letter hand and rolling over God knows how many times, she’d only had her dress half way up when he arrived, frankly she was counting on his lateness. She sat down stairs now in a some what filled restaurant enjoying breakfast and for the first time in a while she actually enjoyed the company of another person. She watched Jeremy go through 8 pancakes in 5 minutes drenched in butter and syrup and not seem to stop even to come up for air, he was working over the stack of toast he’s accumulated right now. Joy smiled at this in looked down into her purse at Barry’s as of yet unmailed letter, Jeremy’s voice broke her concentration as she thought about the 13 page letter she’d wrote last night. Joy’s head quickly flew up.)

Christmas: Huh?



Jeremy: I asked, if you normally were this quiet.


Christmas: Umm, not really I guess I just got some things on my mind is all, sorry about that.


Jeremy: It’s cool, you’re the vice president of a wrestling federation and all, I’d guys you would have a lot of things on your mind ya’ know what I mean.


(Joy smiled, somehow a guy who looked like he’d been rejected out of a pop boy band knew what she was feeling, and besides that was kinda cute. She looked at him with a smile then took a sip from her orange juice.)

Christmas: Sooo, tell me a little about you.


Jeremy:Oh, okay what do you wanna know?


Christmas: Thinks like, what you like to do, stuff like that.


Jeremy: Umm well let’s see, I work here almost everyday, doing the bell hop thing ya’ know. I go over to one of my friend’s houses and we let out the water in their pools and skateboard around in it.


Christmas: Oh, that sounds fun really.


Jeremy: Yeah it’s real cool, yu should try it someti- oh that’s right you’re a chick! But that’s cool! Maybe you like rollerblading.


Christmas: I’m more of a figure skater myself, ever since I graduated I’ve wanted to do it professionally, but I started being a wrestling suit, so that dream just became basically a moot point.


Jeremy: Oh, hey maybe I could skate with you sometimes, I play a little hockey every now and again.


Christmas: So your kinda like a extreme sport fans huh?


Jeremy: I guess you could say that, ever since I droped out of school I needed something to take my mind away from being depressed.


Christmas: Depressed?


Jeremy: Well yeah, I mean not everybody drops out mid way through their 8th grade year, I mean look at you, you finished school and now you’re the vice president of a wrestling organization…I couldn’t ever hope to accomplish that.


Christmas: But Jeremy, one of the only reasons that I’m even considered vice president material is because my dad used to wrestler and a commissioner. And trust me you wouldn’t want this job it may seem, cool or exciting but in truth sometimes you have to turn your back on the very people you love.(sighs) like I did.


Jeremy: WHAT! But wrestling is so cool!


Christmas: Yeah to you Jeremy, but what about those guys, what about the Skylar Thomas’ and Andy and Terry Kenshin’s, the Ryken’s the Stryker’s, the Himagaji’s the Jordan’s the Silver’s that walk backstage after their matches..after..after giving it their all..after giving one hundred percent and then giving fifty more, and it doesn’t matter if they win or lose they still attempt to make it to the next event..I’ve sat in meeting Jeremy where cards I made, and I’ve heard the jokes I’ve heard the whispers…some matches are made just to get certain wrestlers out of federations.


Jeremy: But..their more often than not cool matches don’t you think?


Christmas: If you call bombshell brawls, sharkpit matches and basically icy grave matches cool then I guess, but I don’t see anything cool about it, another man losing his career and most likley his way of live..his way of feeding his family nah there’s nothing cool about it…they say in wrestling it’s all about the ratings..and you know what to avoid bigwig displeasure you have to agree, you think I liked having Ryken sweeping floors, having lil’ Lita Hino get cracked in the head with shovels, having Chris Damm be raped by another wrestler, worse than that having a man who was perfectly sane locked up for a second time!


(That long tirade came from somewhere deep inside Joy, she didn’t know where from and didn’t care but she felt good about what she’d said, Jeremy seemed to be following along as well. He nodded his head in agreement.)

Jeremy: Snatchman was cool though!


Christmas: Maybe, but there’s nothing funny or remotely entertaining to myself about a wrestler who rapes other wrestlers after their matches.. Jeremy listen I’m telling you this because really your such a easy person to talk to..but back in SWA I ordered some of the most horrible plots and attacks to occur.


Jeremy: Like what?


Christmas: I remember when Skylar Thomas shot Andy Kenshin, I’d small crush on Andy at the time so I had 80’s cartoon hero’s men dressed up as Ninja turtles and stuff like that come out to attack him…I wanted to ruin his image, also..it was me that ordered Chris Damm to be raped if Jacob lost the title..we needed to pull some ratings away from Clinton’s Impeachment, so I decided what better way than have people call their buddies up and tell them to change the channel to SWA cause some guy was getting raped.


Jeremy:Yeah but that show pulled in a 20.1 in the ratings!!


Christmas:Yeah but at what cost..ya’ know what Jeremy I’ll tell you this.. those ratings are nothing but number in a months time nobodys gonna give a care about em…but people at least I’d be able to count on them two months down the road.


(Joy’s words ran through his head for a while, as if just noticing he’d placed his vision down at a white napkin on the table, once he’d looked up Joy was gone.)
