I agree. I think it was pretty clear that Sam told Beth what was going on because he said he had a story to tell her and that he would start with the happy ending. So that would guarantee his meeting Al.

As for the bar, I don't think Sam is dead at all. And although Stawpah was supposedly dead, that could also mean he just kept leaping - like Sam - and never returned and was presumed dead by his peers at the time. He may not have had an observer hologram and all that, having been a leaper before the technology. Did anyone else wonder about the bartender being the same guy as Crazy Ernie from the pilot episode? Any signifigence there?

I think Sam never returned home for a couple reasons. He doesn't remember about his wife etc.. since he still has the swiss cheese brain and because he is "hero" enough to continue putting right what once went wrong because he would feel some guilt over just quitting and leaving people out there stranded, as it were. I also think it has something to do with his understanding that he is control of the leaps. He still believes that fate, god, time or whatever is leaping him around. So he just goes with that.

He may even be declared dead by Donna at some point since by now he's been leaping for 10 years or so. But I think he would still be alive.

Oh, and I don't recall ever seeing a note that Al and Beth named a dauther Samantha. I know that the baby born in the first episode was named Samantha, and that Sam's daughter from The Trilogy was named Sammi Jo.
