Subject: This is cool

We've been watching a video in English the past couple of days called the National Hate Test. It's hosted by Gregory Hines.

There are several big celebrities who are also on it. Each one introduces scenarios to which we are supposed to write our reaction. It deals with prejudice toward blacks, Asians, gays, disabled people, people who are HIV positive, elderly people, and more.

Well, when Mr. Hines began talking about disabilities, I wondered which celebrity had been chosen to talk about this topic.... well, the celebrity showed up onscreen, and I actually gasped out loud!

It was none other than Scott Bakula! I began to grin widely as he began to tell about being on Quantum Leap and how his character had been placed into other people's lives and had over the time been a blind person, a person with down syndrome, and a parapeligic (sp?).

I found out just now that this special was first premiered in 1998. Scott looked wonderful.

It was interesting, because as class was getting ready to end, a guy in my class looked at me and asked, "Do you like that guy?" (the video was still on Scott's part).

I nodded and said, "He played on my favorite TV show... Quantum Leap."

The guy smiled. "Well, I saw you gasp and get this big smile on your face, so I knew you recognized him or something..."

The video was wonderful. It really gets you to think about how you really feel toward different people. It's something all high school students... AND adults, should see.

Joy
