Subject: Why was it cancelled? Seriously

Hi,

I used to watch "Quantum Leap" with my brothers when I was a kid. We all loved it. I'm 18-years-old now and starting college, but I still associate the show with memories from my childhood. Example: I remember watching the episode "Promised Land" with my two brothers while we were decorating the Christmas tree. That was back in 1992, but I still remember that. I loved and still love that episode, along with so many others, most notably "The Leap Home" and "Mirror Image". (interesting sidenote: I live in tornado alley and it so happened the night "mirror image" was on that there were serious thunderstorms coming our way. So, the news kept on interrupting the show with updates. I never got to see that episode in its entirey until years later). In a recent conversation with my brother, he theorized that the show was probably one of the best television shows "ever" (his opinion).

So, aside from general nostalgia, what does this have to do with anything? Well, let me explain. I am starting to watch the show again and tape it every day it's on, largely due to a rant about sci-fi shows a friend of mine had (he mentioned QT and I rememberd my fondness for it). And I have just spent the last hour surfing the web for sites and have found numerous sites and many dedicated fans. My question is simply this: why did NBC cancel the show? I, mean, seriously why the hell did they cancel it? I know they gave some sort of reason as to why (I do remember reading about it years ago), but I can't remember what it was. I thought the show got good ratings. And the reason I ask this is because I'm reading all of these sites (some obviously out of date) that are talking about trying to bring back the show and a make a movie out of it and I'm starting to realize how powerful this show really is. But, it's too late my friend. Stockwell seems inactive and as great as a guy as Bakula is, I doubt he'd come back for a movie considering his "Enterprise" gig and also rumored contractual obligations for "enterprise" movies. But why the hell did NBC cancel a show that would still be talked about and loved 7 or 8 years later. It just doesn't make any sense unless the show got abismal ratings. I had kind of convinced myself that the show came to its natural end, but in surfing the web I've been reminded of how it was cancelled. "Mirror Image" was not to be the series finale, damnit. It serves as a great, great episode (in my opinion), but it raises so many new never to be answered questions.

I better stop now or else I'll just keep ranting.
