Subject: What is Scott like?

I was just curious how much Scott's personality is like the characters he plays. Especially his character Sam Beckett. In what ways are Scott and Sam similar, and in what ways are they different? I am very curious because the consensus is very different depending on who you ask, some people say that actors are almost never anything like the characters they play, while still others insist that you need to be similar to your character in order to do a good job.
