When did I ever say that? One of the main reasons for the decline in observance among Jewish immigrants a century ago was legally sanctioned discrimination, which is no longer allowed today (but still occurs). Sure, they were given a chance at freedom and prosperity that they did not get in Eastern Europe. But it came with a price. They had to give up their traditions in order to succeed. That situation no longer applies today. The fact that U.S. voters could choose someone like Joe Lieberman for veep proves that religious observance is no longer an impediment to success here. If anything, the opposite is true. The First Amendment has been one of the greatest blessings for Jews in this country--when it has been properly applied. All religions have thrived under it, and been hurt by entanglements with government, a lesson that many conservatives still haven't absorbed.
