Very very good post Rayna. Just have to add a bit here and elaborate.

Rayna States: "Same goes with Temperament. No breeder can honestly guarantee temperament on a puppy once it leaves their establishment. They can observe the litter and have the pups tested by a 3rd party person, but from the day it leaves, we as breeders have no idea what will or could happen to that pup."

From the time my pups are born, to the time they leave, they are socialized, played with, and 3 times before they leave my property they are temperament and health tested by 2 outside people along with myself. I have yet to produce a dog with a problem (crossing fingers). However, its bound to happen some time.

One thing i tell every puppy inquary that comes thru is these are NOT the dog for everyone. While its nice yes to take them in public and parade them about, its not what they are bred for. People seem to now have the concept that schutz and sport is what WORKING is. Its not. I'm sorry.

Take for instance, Precious... my heart and soul. Now this dog was bred by Rayna, and then to another home, where the dog lived without a whole lot of anything done with her. Then I got her when she was a year old. The dog was spaz, bad bad manners, just knew nothing. I even contacted Rayna telling her I was going to send her back. But, underneath everything the dog was a good stable dog. Once she learned rules, our routine and was allowed to be a boerboel she turned into the wonderful dog she is today. Her main job is not the show ring, that was for fun.. its not the therapy work or the pack therapy or socializing fosters and rescues and being a surrogate to orphans. Its what she dose here at home that counts.

With NO training other than basic maners and the basic, "sit" and "down" she's saved my life litterally on 2 diffrent occasions and protected and saved my property and livestock many times.

I never once had to tell her anything, She did as she was suposed to.

Now I got Faith from Rayna directly. She was bred by her and raised by her until she was almost 4 months. When i got her, she was an awsome pup! She's completely diffrent from Precious in that their temperaments are very very diffrent. While Precious is a no nonsense dog and a very "in your face for attention", Faith is the opposite. She's silent nd very affectionate, until something is threatning, then its viciousness that comes out. Now Granted these dogs were not raised in the same situation, however they were allowed to be dogs.

I still take them out to public and they behave and perform wonderfully, but that didn't come overnight, it took obediance and the gaining of their trust to come out and be social. But they still are not 100% comfortable, they are constantly looking around for threats and guarding. Would i be shocked if one of them alerted at someone who was running by or appeared to them to be threatning? No. Thats what they are suposed to do.

However, when at home, they are completely diffrent. Always looking and sniffing around, even during play.People who've met the dogs out in public come to the house and they are shocked that my dogs are not friendly greeting them with wagging tails and panting tongues, instead they are kept in their vehicles until i've told them its ok. Thats what people need to see in the boels, what they are TRUELY like.

A boerboel is a boerboel. Whats in my oppinion the down falling of this breed is everyone is trying to change them instead of letting them be the dogs they are.
"Lets move them to the city" "lets make them friendly fat couch potatoes" "lets do this, lets do that".... Look what its done to all the other breeds and look what its doing now!!!
