Subject: No good deed goes unpunished

I got in touch with David Harris in January 1993 and indicated that I might be interested in finding out more about the Boerboel. It seems he was at the same time very interested in determining whether a Boerboel could attain a working schutzhund title as that was my training expertise he then wanted to know if I would give it a try with one of his Boerboels. Since I am a sucker for anyone trying to better a working breed I agreed to give it a try. Sometime after that and many emails we decided to visit each other and during his visit he saw our schutzhund club training. After this he said he would give me any of his pups if I committed to that effort, and we shook hands. I lived up to my part of our bargain and he to his. That is how my relationship with the breed began. After I started training the pup I began posting a few videos because almost no one was doing any training with this breed and felt these few videos could help those who wanted to try to train this breed in something other than how to stand and trot around in a ring. Please understand I didn’t post them to show what I could do, history has already showed that, but I posted them in order to assist others who requested help with one training issue or another, and let me tell you there were plenty who did have training issues. In my 30 plus years I have won many trophies none of which are on display in my home. David has the one that was given to me when Gordo earned is Schutzhund A. My wife would get damn upset at how much time I was spending on the phone, at no charge I might add, helping those who, at that time had nowhere else to go for answers. When I had difficulty explaining a particular method I would post a video to show how I taught it. Now it seems that no good deed goes unpunished as these videos are now being ridiculed as some sort of chest beating ritual. Such as “I'll try to remember to make that cute video next time we are under threat!” and “I agree, mine do thier fair share of work on a daily basis. I just don't keep a camera in my back pocket 24/7 waiting for something to happen...”Well folks I don’t keep a camera on me either. Some 50,000 people have looked at these videos, that translates into 50,000 people probably seeing a Boerboel for the first and here’s the best part they saw one DOING SOMETHING. The self-serving anti video bandwagon, some people have gleefully jumped on doesn’t become anyone, or maybe it does.
