Subject: Boerboel Pup that Survived the Tornado in Northern Alabama

I am writing this story because I have a friend in Northern Alabama who has a 9-month-old Boerboel pup. My friend lost everything -- his house, 2 barns, a prized stallion and some mares. His Boerboel pup was ripped out of his arms as they were hiding under a desk. Thankfully, through the help of friends, the pup was found a few days later wandering in a field. A compassionate vet has taken care of the pup, and he will be okay.

I am sharing this story because the Alabama tornado victims need our help. There are some veterinarians in the area who are working around the clock to help care for these animals. Many of the dogs, cats and horses are still displaced, and no one knows who they belong to. The vets aren't turning any animals down because they don't know who the owners are.

I found this story written by Gwen Cooper, as she discusses celebrating the pet-human connection. Ms. Cooper was separated from her 3 cats for several days during 9-11, so she is very familiar with the pain, heartache and feeling of helplessness when separated from your pets during a disaster. It's a beautiful story. Within the story is a link to a Chip-In site where you can contribute towards a fund which goes directly towards veterinarian costs to help the animals caught up in this devastating storm. I urge everyone to help if they can.
