I think a GOOD Boerboel will do pretty much everything you need. They'll hunt hard, drive stock, some will catch and they'll guard.

I farm a 180 acres, a collie would be more useful with the stock, a spaniel would flush more pheasants, a lurcher would catch more large game but two of my Boerboels will do all these jobs adequately and guard as well. I also compete in obedience with them...

I don't see much point in crossing them, it's more a question of trying to get a good one and that applies to all breeds and crosses.
