Subject: Boerboel Rescue Resource

Hey, all,

Since there's been a small flurry of rescue situations recently (see the link) and I have a blog around anyway, I've posted the last couple up there. That made it a lot easier to send info out to others via Twitter, etc., so I also just registered a domain to get to them quickly via http://boerboelrescue.ca in the hope that this can help.

To be clear, I am not planning on "starting a rescue" at this time -- We're a bit "over dogged" here at the moment, and the kids are at an age where there are always way too many young people walking through the house without knocking, etc. to safely eval. dogs -- but I am totally happy to technically support any central place where people can contact each other directly and vet possible homes themselves. I can scrape info off of here and other lists and paste it into the blog, and send out reminders on occasion to the good people of the community (also via Twitter/Facebook/ etc.). Posters can add their contact info and will be responsible for ensuring homes are suitable as I will (due to my current time constraints) not be able to get in the middle very much.

A couple things I suggest, however:

1) If you have identified a rescue candidate, please spend a few moments gathering the info people will ask: DOB, breeder, sex, intact or not, issues, pictures, contacts. Typical stuff. Pictures matter, though. Really seems to help.
2) If you are a breeder, or even just an enthusiast, please look around your group of contacts, and see if there is any opportunity for a good fit with any dogs. It doesn't generate any cash directly, but the goodwill will be remembered. Same with any transport help.
3) If you have any links into any other rescue org's or lists, please take a moment out of your day to forward any dogs still looking for homes along
4) Tell me if it works out so I can update the entry (or just add a comment to that effect, I guess)

That's all I can think of. Apologies in advance, but be prepared for some rescue spam until the list is clear. :)

Ron
